Later this week, I’ll be moderating a panel at the SERMA Conference that takes a hard look at abuse prevention in youth sports—where we’re falling short, what real accountability looks like, and how organizations can move beyond compliance toward meaningful risk management. We’re bringing together attorneys, claims experts, and athlete safety practitioners to tackle tough questions: • Why are abuse claims still rising? • Where are policies failing in practice? • How do we stop treating abuse prevention like a checkbox and start treating it like the critical risk it is? How do you think we’re doing as an industry? Are we evolving fast enough to protect athletes—and the people and organizations who are trying to do the right thing? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Let’s move the conversation forward. #AthleteSafety #RiskManagement #YouthSports #AbusePrevention #SERMA2025 #SafeSport #Governance #CultureChange

Safety and Accessibility in Sports #MarketplaceMinistry - Christian Entrepreneur

I've been reflecting on the moment that crystalized our mission at Players Health. In 2020, when COVID shut down Chicago's schools and sports programs, my childhood friend called me. He said it was urgent. And his voice still echos with me nearly everyday: "Ty. These kids need somewhere to go." I knew exactly what he meant. Because I was one of those kids once. Someone who needed to get away from the chaos and danger and bad influences in my daily life, and just be a kid who could play and learn. So we built an 8-week football camp for 150 kids from my old neighborhood. It was awesome. Camp participants learned football techniques, skills, winning as a team, and how to figure out ways to adapt in the face of adversity. I was so so happy seeing the energy from those kids!! It was truly incredible. I wish I could say that feeling lasted. But unfortunately it didn't. When those 8 weeks ended and the kids had to leave our camp, we lost five of them to the streets. Five young lives. Gone. That weight stays with me. But I also think about all the others who made it through because they'd found purpose in our program. So that's why when I say sports saved my life, I truly mean it. Because I've seen both sides. I will make sure kids have safe spaces in sports, changing the trajectory of their lives. That's my promise. #SportsSafety #YouthDevelopment #CommunityImpact #PlayersHealth

Really enjoyed sitting down with Greg Olsen on Youth Inc. Greg is one of the NFL's most durable and reliable NFL players in history (he played 14 seasons!). And we got real about athlete safety beyond just what happens on the field. The truth is, creating safe environments for kids in sports requires a complete framework. From background checks and training to reporting systems and proper protocols. As Greg points out, some of the most critical protection happens before anyone steps foot on the field. This is why we're building comprehensive solutions at Players Health. Because true athlete safety is a 24/7 commitment 🙏 #YouthSports #SportsSafety #Leadership

Incredible energy and insight this week at the Aspen Institute Sports & Society 2025 Project Play Summit at Cal Berkeley. A huge thank you to the Athlete Safety team at Players Health and to our amazing clients Ashley from p1440 Foundation Volleyball and Joel from Florida Youth Soccer for their powerful contributions on stage. That’s a wrap on the #ProjectPlay Summit 2025!👏🏆🎉 In two days, the Summit brought together leaders from across sectors to explore how we can create a more inclusive, joyful, and accessible future for youth sports. From bold ideas to honest, vulnerable conversations, it became a space for listening, learning, connecting, and leading. We were all #united by our passion for sports and one shared goal: getting 63% of youth nationally playing sports by 2030. 🏈 On Day 2, we explored some of the most pressing challenges and opportunities in youth sports. Topics included increasing Latina participation, supporting athletes with disabilities, redesigning injury care, and making coaching safer and more effective. 🏀 Sessions also addressed mental health, inclusion, affordability, equity, systems change, community-based solutions, and youth safety. ⚽ Each conversation sparked meaningful insights and actionable ideas rooted in innovation, collaboration, and a shared commitment to creating a better future for all youth. From grassroots disruptors to national leaders, everyone brought passion, perspective, and a sense of urgency to move from conversation to action. Thank you to our incredible sponsors Bay Area Host Committee, Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation, Hospital for Special Surgery, Players Health, San Francisco Giants, PeopleForBikes, The Allstate Foundation, GameChanger, and the Soccer Forward Foundation. • Would you believe the biggest March Madness story this year... is about the NIL? Amir “Aura” Khan wasn’t supposed to be the star of March Madness. In fact, he wasn’t even on the roster. But the senior student manager from McNeese State University didn't need a jersey to electrify the crowd and change the game. Aura first lit up social media with a viral pregame ritual: confidently leading his team onto the court, boombox in hand, blasting pump up music while rapping every line. The video spread faster than a buzzer-beater highlight, catapulting him into national fame overnight. What followed was unprecedented. Aura became the first-ever student manager to secure lucrative NIL deals, partnering with brands like Buffalo Wild Wings, Insomnia Cookies, TickPick, TurboTax, and even landing his very own Topps trading card (yes, he literally has his own trading card now—talk about collecting some serious Aura). His newfound fame reached new heights during his school's thrilling upset over a higher ranked team—the team's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory. Aura's sideline energy was so magnetic, filmmaker Spike Lee even sought him out courtside. Aura’s journey highlights a groundbreaking shift: The NIL era is redefining what it means to be influential in college sports, extending opportunities beyond the court or field. At Players Health, we're inspired by stories like Aura's, and committed to ensuring athletes, managers, admins, and families stay healthy and safe, whether it's through physical well-being or financial empowerment. College sports is entering an exciting new chapter. And if Aura's rise teaches us anything, it's that your energy, authenticity, and passion can create incredible opportunities—on the court or off. Keep shining, Aura.
