Updates

  • Do you have an idea for a panel or training you’d like to see on the agenda at Netroots Nation this summer? Good news: Our community call for session submissions is now open! ➡️ Click here for the guidelines and submission form: https://lnkd.in/encv-5Y You can submit your idea(s) between now and March 5. As a reminder, this year's conference is happening August 7-9 in New Orleans. As always, we'll cover a breadth of critical issues important to progressives, but this year's event will have a heavy focus on resistance and building power. You can submit on any issue, but we encourage you to think about your proposal through this lens:    Defense: How do we block Trump's worst impulses and protect vulnerable communities on the frontlines of the administration's attacks?    Offense: How do we build power and strengthen our movements as we work toward creating a more equal and just world? We also want to shine a light on what's happening in our host city of New Orleans, so we encourage you to consider including a local speaker in your proposal. Interested in proposing a skills-based training? We’re looking for trainings that are practical, forward-thinking, and dynamic — and that appeal to a range of experience levels. Some sample topics we're looking to cover include deep canvassing, using AI ethically, the latest in social media and digital tools, countering disinformation/misinformation, and messaging our values. Please consider diversity as well as how your session can empower others to take what they've learned and apply it in their own work or community. In the submission form, we ask a few demographic questions; we do this to help ensure that our speaker lineup from year to year is diverse and representative of the movement. We’ll host a couple of webinars in the coming weeks to go over tips and guidelines and give you time to ask questions. The first one is this Thursday at 3pm ET; click here to sign up: https://lnkd.in/gsF2YCdY The deadline for submissions is March 5. ➡️ Click here for our guidelines and key dates, and then submit your panel or training proposal. https://lnkd.in/encv-5Y Looking forward to seeing your ideas! Mary Rickles Netroots Nation PS: Submissions are reviewed by topic-based session evaluation committees made up of peers from around the movement. Want to help evaluate sessions? Netroots Nation is my favorite conference of the year and it's not really close. This is going to be the 19th annual conference and is shaping up to better than ever with projected registration numbers that will potentially be a record setter. Ofc this is get together of the smartest and most strategic communicators, organizers and activists from the progressive/political world but what's been most important to me is that this is one of those places I have felt like being in a community. This has been a place of launch point for number of progressive starts - electeds, leaders, and activists over the years. It's also been a place for building relationships and memories that has lasted a life time. Incredibly proud to have our firm - Pacifica Strategies- be one of the sponsors this year. Our team will be out there in force. If you are going to be there - chime in here - I'd love to see you. I will also drop a registration link in the comment thread as well. #conference #progressive #organizing #training #networking #media #digital

The 19th annual Netroots Nation conference is July 11-13 in Baltimore, and I’m a speaker! Join me in Charm City for the largest annual progressive gathering in the country — just months ahead of a critical presidential election. If you’ve never been to Netroots, it’s a powerful event with opportunities to be inspired, learn and connect with some of the brightest minds in the movement. The agenda will include conversations about how we can win up and down the ballot in November, panels about protecting democracy; and sessions digging into critical issues like abortion access, the economy, climate change and gun reform.

  • Thanks Josh!! And, attention Maryland digital organizers! 😃

Civic Shout CEO: Helping run the ad platform for progressive causes.

Netroots Nation has been instrumental in my career. I've been going since 2006 and have made far too many personal and professional connections there to count. It was one of the first conferences where I had the opportunity to speak on a panel, and I've learned *so much* from other panelists and speakers, and in hallway conversations over the years. It's the one must-attend conference for me every year – and I would not be where I am today without it. That's why I'm so excited to share that the Civic Shout Foundation will be awarding eight scholarships to help Maryland-based digital organizers attend Netroots Nation this year. It is taking place from July 11-13 in Baltimore. Scholarship recipients will receive registration to the conference and a $300 stipend for meals and transportation. They’ll be invited to attend a lunch with Civic Shout Foundation advisors and other scholarship recipients. To be eligible to apply, you must live in Maryland, be employed by a 501(c)(3) organization, and spend at least some of your time doing email, text messaging or other digital work. To apply, please complete the short application form found in the comments below by 5pm Eastern on Wednesday, May 29. Scholarship recipients will be notified on Friday, May 31. Please feel free to share the application form with anyone who lives in Maryland and does digital work for a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

  • Still need some help convincing your boss that attendance at Netroots Nation this year in Baltimore is a GREAT professional development investment for you and your organization? We're here to help -- with some convincing arguments handily assembled for you on one web page, that's here: https://lnkd.in/gqp7BAUC . To sum it up from a previous attendee, Robert ... "This was the best conference ever! It was like a full semester of grad school level training in four days! The speakers were inspiring, there were incredible networking opportunities, and the best practices shared there will certainly be put to good use." You can check out our full list of more than 60 training sessions here: https://lnkd.in/gj-mGpJW . A ticket gets you access to all of these trainings and so much more, so be sure to register soon and save your spot! https://lnkd.in/gNmKuyxM .
