  • Nashville Zoo mourns the loss of its clouded leopard cub. 😢 We are heartbroken to share that our beloved clouded leopard cub passed away suddenly on April 4 due to intestinal bleeding. “This cub represented a proud achievement for us and a hopeful future for her species,” said Nashville Zoo President and CEO Rick Schwartz. “She captured the hearts of millions of people, and we are absolutely devastated.” The cub was born on February 25 and quickly gained national media attention and popularity. Shortly after her birth, the Zoo announced a naming contest raising thousands for clouded leopard conservation efforts. On April 3, the cub developed acute hemorrhagic gastroenteritis (HGE), a bleeding into the GI tract. The Zoo’s veterinary team reacted immediately and worked continuously to try and alleviate the issue which unfortunately was unsuccessful. The exact cause of HGE has yet to be determined. Rest in peace, little one. You will be deeply missed, but your impact on clouded leopard conservation will live on. 💔

  • 🦒What a week it has been! Many thanks to Allen Monroe and his entire team of The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens for hosting Nashville Zoo and other zoos and aquariums from around the country and world. It was a Herculean effort done extremely well. The photo below is from their magnificent giraffe exhibit! These organizations gathered together for a week to attend the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Mid-Year Conference. While there, we are proud to share that Nashville Zoo was approved by the AZA for re-accreditation! This signifies a zoo or aquarium's commitment to the highest standards of animal welfare, conservation, education, and safety - ensuring a positive experience for both animals and visitors. Congratulations to our CEO, Rick Schwartz, and everyone at Nashville Zoo who worked so hard to achieve this! #NashvilleZoo #AZAaccreditation #TeamWork

  • Nashville Zoo goes to California! This week is the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Mid-Year Conference in California. Today, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park hosted conference attendees, including 5 team members from Nashville Zoo! The Park spans 1800 acres and is home to more than 3000 animals that represent over 300 species. There were sprawling savannas, world-class botanical gardens and a Biodiversity Reserve. Much like our Zoo, the Safari Park was built by generous individual, foundation, and corporate donors. If your company would like to become a part of the fabric of Nashville Zoo, consider joining us today! Spotted! A new clouded leopard cub at Nashville Zoo! 🐆 🐆 In case you missed Good Morning America this morning, we're excited to announce the birth of a female clouded leopard cub born just two weeks ago on February 25, 2025! This little one is the latest cub from parents Niran and Ron, marking it the 44th clouded leopard born at Nashville Zoo since 1991. She’s being hand-reared by our expert veterinary team and can be seen in the nursery at the HCA Healthcare Veterinary Center with daily feedings at 11:00 am and 3:00 pm! Hand-rearing clouded leopard cubs is recommended by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums' Species Survival Plan because it significantly increases their survival rates by preventing parental predation or neglect. It also helps cubs acclimate to human care, reducing stress and allowing them to form early social bonds with potential mates, leading to more successful breeding in the future as we work to conserve this vulnerable species. 💛 You can watch Dr. Heather Schwartz feeding the cub on the Good Morning America segment featured here: https://lnkd.in/eMhb4tc4. This is another example of the result of our conservation efforts. Your business can also support these efforts by becoming a corporate partner of Nashville Zoo. If you would like to join us, reach out to CorporatePartnerships@NashvilleZoo.org. #NashvilleZoo #Conservation #CorporatePartnerships #NewBabyAlert #Nashville

Today is World Wildlife Day! Nashville Zoo celebrates wildlife every day, but we bring special attention to it today. To enjoy the benefits and beauty nature brings us and our planet, people all over the globe work together to make sure ecosystems are able to thrive and plant and animal species are able to exist for future generations. Here at the Zoo, our experienced staff are actively involved in research, habitat protection, breeding programs and education initiatives internationally as well as in our own local area. One of the critically endangered species you can find at our Zoo is the Sumatran tiger. They are the smallest of the tiger subspecies maxing out at 310 pounds and 8 feet and are the only remaining tiger species native to the Sunda Islands in Indonesia. The expansion of palm oil and acacia plantations have decimated the species’ native range, fragmenting the population into smaller, isolated areas. Human conflict and poaching also contributes to the decline as people kill tigers to protect livestock and use the animal’s skin, teeth, bones and whiskers for profit. Nashville Zoo supports the Tiger Conservation Campaign which fights to save habitats, curb poaching, eliminate the trade of tiger parts and reduce human/tiger conflicts. We are proud to have an entire family here. Pictured below is Kirana, a 1 1/2 year-old cub born at Nashville Zoo - sister to Bulan and Zara, daughter of Felix and Anne. Let’s celebrate wildlife and the important conservation work being done around the world! If your company would like to donate to local or international conservation or you are interested in partnering with the Zoo in a number of other ways, reach out to us on the World Wildlife Day at CorporatePartnerships@NashvilleZoo.org. #WorldWildlifeDay #Conservation #CorporatePartnerships #SumatranTigers #NashvilleZoo
