  • Big Horn County, Forsyth and Winnett will share more than $400,000 in grant funding allocated to them by the Montana Coal Board: ▫️ Big Horn County will receive $155,620.87 for boiler and fire systems replacements at the Big Horn County Library. ▫️ The City of Forsyth will receive $200,000 for construction of a new water tank and installation of a booster pump. ▫️ The Town of Winnett will receive $50,000 for the purchase of a new dump truck. The Montana Coal Board awards Coal Board Impact Grants to counties, communities, school districts, tribal governments or other governmental units to help them provide government services or facilities that are needed as a direct consequence of an increase or decrease in coal development, or in the consumption of coal by a coal-using energy complex. For example, last year, the City of Roundup received $100,000 of Coal Board funding to purchase a new backhoe. Sandra Jones, mayor of Roundup, said, “On behalf of the City of Roundup, we want to thank the Montana Coal Board for all the help they provide for projects in coal communities in the state.” The Board was created by the Legislature in 1975 and is administratively attached to our agency. • Congratulations to the Sidney Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, which will receive more than $113,000 of grant funding to develop local tourism opportunities. This grant funding is through our Regional Assistance Program and helps nonprofit tourism corporations and visitor bureaus develop rural and under-visited tourism opportunities, increase visitation and generate community revenue for the benefit of local economies. In 2023, the Montana Legislature directed our agency to establish RAP by enacting SB 540. RAP grant applications launch every two years. • 🎬 We’re excited to announce 29 TV and film productions will share nearly $1.5 million in grant funding to shoot on-location productions in Montana, spending an estimated $11.3 million across the state while doing so, helping boost local economies. These grants are awarded through the Big Sky Film Grant Program at the @Montana Department of Commerce Film Office, funded by an allocation of the lodging facility use tax, or “bed tax.” In 2023, Senate Bill 540 of the 68th Montana Legislature revised laws related to state-funded tourism promotion to require a specific allocation of bed tax monies for Montana-based film grants. Kudos to our Film Office team members, who work hard year-round to promote Montana as a business destination for production companies to expand filming in our state, increase job opportunities, promote small business growth and promote tourism.
