We are pleased to invite you to the upcoming MIE Seminar Series, featuring Dr. Sunandita Sarker, Assistant Professor at UMass Amherst, Technologies for Healthcare Enhancement via Advanced Manufacturing Principal Investigator.
🚨 MIE Seminar Series 🚨
🗓 Date: Friday, April 4th
⏰ Time: 12 PM – 1 PM
📍 Location: Gunness Student Center
Topic: "Technologies for Healthcare Enhancement via Advanced Manufacturing"
Abstract and Bio: Traditionally, micro- and nano-scale biomedical devices have been made using clean room-based processes, originally developed for the semiconductor and MEMS industries. However, 3D micro/nanoprinting offers transformative potential in healthcare, enabling the creation of intricate, personalized devices. Modern additive manufacturing (AM) techniques provide flexibility in design, materials, and functionality. Dr. Sunandita Sarker, principal investigator of the Technologies for Healthcare Enhancement via Advanced Manufacturing (THEAM) laboratory, leads efforts to address challenges in integrating mechanical design, product development, and biological science in micro/nano biomedical devices. Her work focuses on 3D nano-printing technology, particularly Two-Photon Direct Laser Writing (DLW), to create innovative microneedle arrays for stem cell therapies targeting neurodegenerative diseases. She is also developing DLW-based strategies for custom-designed surgical tools for critical patients, including neonates. Dr. Sarker’s work includes both experimental and computational modeling for device optimization. Her long-term goal is to collaborate with pharmaceutical and healthcare industries to create novel systems that improve patient outcomes and compliance.
