About us
Mastery Charter Schools and Mastery Schools of Camden form a non-profit school network of charter, turnaround and renaissance schools in Philadelphia, PA and Camden, NJ, serving over 14,000 students in grades K-12. Our mission is to ensure all students learn the academic and personal skills they need to be truly prepared for postsecondary success and able to pursue their dreams. Mastery is nationally recognized for its ability to turn around failing neighborhood schools and to drive dramatic student achievement gains. In our turnaround schools, test scores have increased, on average, more than 40 percentage points per grade and subject after three years, violence decreased by 80% and student turnover dropped by one-third. Mastery schools are joyful, authentic communities where students learn how to think critically and act independently so they are truly prepared for post-secondary success. One year later: Our $3.7 million literacy grant is making a difference! Last year, Mastery Schools received an Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL) grant from U.S. Department of Education, which allowed us to provide new classroom libraries to K-3 classrooms in three schools. Second-grade teacher Liz Schultz from Frederick Douglass Elementary shares the incredible impact these libraries have had on her students. Thanks to the new resources, oral reading fluency has doubled in Liz's classroom and the excitement for reading among the students has grown immensely! We are thrilled to introduce these transformative libraries to four more schools later this year in support of our mission to ensure every student reads on grade level by third grade. #WeAreMastery #PHLed #NJed

Vice President, Community Development @ Citizens | Transforming Social Impact through Strategic Partnerships | Passionate about Financial Empowerment, Homeownership, Small Business & Workforce Development | LGBTQ+
We had the pleasure this week of hosting a group of bright and motivated high school students for a job shadow event at our Philadelphia Training Site location in partnership with Junior Achievement of Southeastern Pennsylvania! The day was filled with engaging conversations about career pathways, hands-on exposure to real-world job skills, and valuable financial literacy lessons to help prepare them for success in college and beyond. It was inspiring to see these young minds eager to learn, ask insightful questions, and explore the many possibilities that lie ahead. Opportunities like these not only provide students with practical knowledge and the power of understanding transferable skills, but also instill confidence as they navigate their future careers. A huge thank you to everyone who made this event possible and to the Mastery Schools students for bringing their curiosity and energy! Citizens is proud to play a role in empowering the next generation of our workforce. #CitizensColleague #Mentorship #FinancialLiteracy #CareerDevelopment #JuniorAchievement #CommunityEngagement
