🚗 Miles & Smiles: Connecting with Our Members! 😊 Melissa Andrews, our President & CEO, had the opportunity to visit The Village at Orchard Ridge and connect with Executive Director, Steven Nastasi and Allison Combs with National Lutheran Communities & Services. During her visit, she toured construction underway to improve the community's common areas as a part of their ongoing efforts to foster a more vibrant and welcoming environment for residents. These visits help us better understand how we can support our members' missions and share in their dedication to serving older Virginians with care and purpose. 👏 We look forward to continuing the journey and sharing more member stories across the Commonwealth. 💚 #MilesAndSmiles #LeadingAgeVirginia #MemberConnections #AgingServices #OrchardRidge

📣 Advocacy in action & impact!📣 On April 9th, LeadingAge Virginia brought a powerhouse team of mission-driven members to Capitol Hill for one of the most active advocacy days of the year at #LeadingAge25. We met with Virginia's Representatives Wittman, McClellan, Scott, and Senator's Kaine and Warner to elevate the needs of older adults and those who care for them. The message? Clear, urgent, and backed by lived experience: ✅ No cuts to Medicaid ✅ More affordable housing ✅ Legal pathways for international workers ✅ Protect tax-exempt bonds ✅ Fund Area Agencies on Aging With stories, solutions, and determination, our members showed what it means to lead with purpose. Advocacy like this shapes the future of aging services and we're just getting started! #AdvocacyInAction #CapitolHillDay #AdvocacyWithHeart #TogetherWeLead #PolicyWithPurpose

Recently, Carter Lyons, our Senior Director of Member Experience & Workforce Strategy, joined VSAE board members in Washington, DC for ASAE's Fly-In, meeting with lawmakers to spotlight key federal issues: 🔹 Nonprofit Tax Reform: As the 2017 Tax Cuts & Jobs Act approaches its 2025 sunset, associations and nonprofits face risks to their tax-exempt status. 🔹 Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow's Workforce Act: This bipartisan bill would allow 529 savings to fund skills training and credentials—supporting workforce development across sectors. Meetings included stops at Rep. McGuire's and Sen. Kaine's offices and collaboration with the Community Impact Coalition. Importantly, LeadingAge Virginia is also taking a separate advocacy trip to the Hill—visiting more members of the Virginia congressional delegation to elevate the unique needs of older adults and the aging services workforce. We're proud to lead, support, and amplify the voice of aging services across every level of government. #AgingServices #NonprofitAdvocacy #ASAEFlyIn #OnTheHill
