♻️🌍 Where Does Our Garbage Go? 🚛⚡ Ever wonder what happens to your garbage and recycling once our city crews pick it up from your house? Now’s your chance to see! Join Christine Engle, from our Solid Waste and Recycling Division, for a tour of the Solid Waste Authority’s (SWA) Integrated Solid Waste Management System. According to the SWA, “you will have the opportunity to walk across our 500 foot Sky Bridge (please wear closed-toe walking shoes) to Renewable Energy Facility 2, where we turn your garbage into electricity. The tour continues as you board the SWA bus for a rolling tour through the Renewable Energy Park. You will view Renewable Energy Facility 1, two Sanitary Landfills, the Home Chemical and Recycling Center, and the southern entrance to the SWA Greenway Trail System. Update from FDOT on the Lake Avenue Bascule Bridge.... On March 5, 2025, the eastbound State Road (SR) 802 Lake Avenue Bascule Bridge over the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway in Lake Worth Beach, Palm Beach County, Florida, experienced a mechanical issue which has rendered the bridge temporarily inoperable. The input shaft, which transfers rotational drive to the gearbox during the opening and closing sequence of the bridge must be replaced. The bridge functionality cannot be restored until a new input shaft is installed. Machining Fabrication of a replacement input shaft is currently ongoing in an FDOT approved machine shop in Florida. Two-way vehicular traffic is flowing over the westbound bridge, one lane in each direction. The eastbound bridge re-opening is anticipated to occur within the next 1 to 2 weeks, after the new part has been installed and tested.
