You've heard us say it before: Safety is at the heart of everything we do. On a jobsite, nothing is more important than the safety of our crews, partners and surrounding communities. That's why we're proud to recognize some of the projects and teams that have been honored within our organization for their outstanding safety records. A huge thank you to our employees for making safety a priority every day so that everyone can return safely home to their families.

Work is underway on the largest transportation infrastructure project in the Texas Department of Transportation’s Fort Worth District history as we rebuild and widen 14 miles of interstate and improve some of the state’s most congested roads. The highly complex Southeast Connector Project — a joint venture with Austin Bridge & Road, Inc. — aims to improve mobility and enhance safety by increasing roadway capacity and adding continuous frontage roads. The scope includes reconstructing the I-20, I-820 and US-287 interchanges, 2.7 million square feet of bridge deck, over 2.1 million square yards of concrete paving and 1.1 million square feet of retaining walls. We appreciate the community’s patience and support as we work efficiently to complete construction.

Kiewit is proud to play a key role in the transformation of the former Homer City Generating Station into the country's largest natural gas-powered data center campus. Previously the largest coal-burning power plant in Pennsylvania, the site will be transformed into a more than 3,200-acre state-of-the-art campus, designed to meet the growing artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) needs of the innovative technology companies shaping America’s digital future. We will be building the Homer City Energy Campus, which will generate up to 4.5 GW of energy production powered by seven GE Vernova turbines. Construction of the site is expected to commence this year and is expected to begin producing power by 2027. For more details about the project, including site renderings, visit Homer City Redevelopment’s website: https://bit.ly/44gJ3ce

The Prospect Lake Clean Water Center Project site is taking shape as crews work on constructing a state-of-the-art water treatment plant that will provide most of the fresh water to Fort Lauderdale.   The facility is being developed in partnership with Ridgewood Infrastructure, IDE Technologies and the City of Fort Lauderdale. Kiewit is leading the design and construction of the new facility, which will produce 50 million gallons of water per day and is engineered and being built to withstand a Category 5 hurricane. This new plant will replace the existing 70-year-old facility.   The first nine months of the project were spent designing and engineering this facility. Over the last 15 months, our team completed 110,000 cubic yards of mass excavation, installed 36,000 linear feet of underground pipe and 140,000 linear feet of underground electrical conduit. More than 170,000 cubic yards of backfill have increased the site to 7 feet above the flood plain to protect the facility in cases of catastrophic weather. Over 7,000 cubic yards of concrete have also been placed for structural foundations and pipe supports.   The electrical work is in full swing and most of the mechanical equipment will be in place before the end of May.

Ellicott City’s history runs deep, and we’re working to protect its future. In partnership with Traylor Bros., Inc., we’re making significant progress on the Howard County Government Ellicott City North Tunnel Stormwater Conveyance Project in Maryland, a component of the Safe and Sound Plan. This critical infrastructure will protect the area’s homes, businesses and landmarks by reducing the risk of severe flooding. Using a Robbins main beam tunnel boring machine, our team will construct two 160-foot-deep shafts, a 5,800-foot-long tunnel and an outfall structure to connect the tunnel to the Patapsco River. Once complete, the North Tunnel will be capable of moving 26,000 gallons of water per second, safely diverting stormwater underground and away from Main Street. The team’s primary access underground is the mining shaft. Blasting started at the end of 2024, and the shaft collar is nearly ready to resume excavation. If the weather cooperates, we expect the North Tunnel to be substantially complete in fall 2027.
