ICYMI: Chairman & CEO Brendan Bechtel on a major milestone for U.S. energy security. ⚡ Bechtel received the green light from Lithium Americas Corp. to build the Thacker Pass lithium mine, which will strengthen the U.S. supply chain, create thousands of jobs, and drive economic growth. ⬇️ Hear more from Brendan and read a blog from Ailie MacAdam, President of our Mining & Metals business, on how this project will shape America's future.
Picture this: A brighter, more energy-secure future, anchored by American-mined, domestically produced lithium. Just as demand for critical minerals in everyday consumer products grows exponentially, mining is making a comeback in the U.S.—and not a moment too soon. Today, I’m excited to share that Bechtel Corporation is helping accelerate its revival. Our customer, Lithium Americas Corp., gave us the final go-ahead to build the Thacker Pass lithium mine and processing facility. The announcement marks a pivotal moment—not just for Bechtel, but for the U.S. Located in northern Nevada, Thacker Pass is the largest known lithium reserve and resource in the world. Once operational, the 642-acre plant complex will increase domestic lithium carbonate production eightfold. It will also create 2,000 construction jobs, generate more than $1 billion in annual economic activity, and reduce our reliance on foreign imports. I think it’s also fitting that Bechtel’s legacy in Nevada began with another megaproject: the iconic Hoover Dam. Like the dam, Thacker Pass is also a nation-building project that will strengthen the economy, reinforce our industrial might, and advance our energy independence. To our incredible colleagues across Nevada and around the world: thank you for continuing to set the standard and redefine what’s possible.
