  • Congratulations to HRM Docent Annette Candido for receiving the Mayor’s Community Service Award for 2025! On April 3, Mayor Mike Spano honored three local volunteers at the 8th Annual Mayor’s Day of Recognition for National Service, which recognizes those who donate their time to a variety of charitable organizations in #Yonkers. Annette Candido has been a dedicated docent at the HRM since 2020, following a distinguished legal career. At the HRM, Annette shares her passion for education and the arts, leading engaging tours of exhibitions and collections for students and adults. She finds great joy in art, architecture, and supporting arts education, which she considers central to her life. In the past year, Annette has distinguished herself by serving as Vice President of the HRM Docent Council and logging the most volunteer hours among the Museum’s docents. • It is with great disappointment that the Hudson River Museum shares that we were notified on the night of April 9 that our Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) matching grant (No. MA-253509-OMS-23) in the amount of $124,930, has been abruptly terminated. The letter states that our grant, "is unfortunately no longer consistent with the agency's priorities and no longer serves the interest of the United States and the IMLS Program." This termination was a part of an unprecedented nationwide Executive Order that has impacted numerous museums and libraries. The abrupt loss of funding will have immediate and unfortunate consequences for our organization and the communities we serve. If you can, please consider making a gift, in any amount meaningful to you, to support our work at hrm.org/donate. • The HRM is proud to present “Lens on the Hudson: Photographs by Joseph Squillante,” opening Friday, May 9! For 50 years, Joseph Squillante has captured the Hudson River’s magnificence, producing thousands of evocative photographs that offer a lens into the past and present of this historic waterway. This exhibition celebrates Squillante’s golden anniversary by highlighting his intersection with the environmental movements that gained momentum along the river in the 1970s and continue today. Squillante states: “Revisiting these photographs has opened a new chapter in my understanding of the importance of documenting the challenges that continue to rear up and threaten our natural world. This exhibition marking my 50th year of photographing the Hudson is more than a milestone – it is a reaffirmation of my life-long love and care for both photography and the river. It serves as an opportunity to be more vigilant and vocal in advocating for environmental awareness and conservation of the river. The Hudson River belongs to us all. We must nurture and protect it as if it were our very own child.” Learn more at hrm.org/squillante Riverkeeper Hudson River Sloop Clearwater #HRMJoeSquillante #JoeSquillante #LensontheHudson #HudsonRiver #Rivers #Clearwater #Environmentalism #Conservation #Photography #FilmPhotography #Exhibition #Westchester #NewYork #Yonkers Exhibitions are made possible by assistance provided by the @westchester county Images: 1. • “‘Smoke in Our Hair highlights’ some of the most influential Native artists working over the last sixty years, many of whom have never had their works before exhibited on the East Coast.” writes Jamie L. Rotante in her review of #HRMSmokeinOurHair for The Yonkers Ledger. “The art and artists span multiple generations, with a call to consider connections and disconnections between tradition and innovation. … While so much of Native History is, as many of the artists on display as part of the ‘Smoke in Our Hair’ exhibit have demonstrated, often static and frozen in time, a piece of history rather than an active part of it, it is incredibly important to honor and continue to support Indigenous artists and their work.” The exhibition will be on view at the HRM through August 31. Read the full review at https://lnkd.in/epnRuh-8 Curated by independent curator Sháńdíín Brown (Diné). Exhibitions are made possible by assistance provided by Westchester County Lead support for this exhibition is generously provided by Becky Gochman and Art Bridges. This exhibition is generously sponsored by the City of Yonkers, Mayor Mike Spano Additional support is provided by Larry and Jill Feldman, and Conrad and Sarah Meyer. Public programs are supported in part by the Anita K. Hersh Philanthropic Foundation, Freedom View Foundation, and Ellen Kozak. This exhibition was created in collaboration with Moonoka Begay (Ndéé + Diné), who also served as curatorial research assistant, and Zach Feuer. #YonkersLedger #ExhibitionReview #IndigenousArtists #IndigenousArt #NativeArt

  • Congratulations to Mayor Mike Spano for an excellent State of the City address last week! We were honored to be included as one of the great features of the City of Yonkers. During the address, Mayor Spano spoke about how we have attracted visitors from over 43 US states and that we have been named #BestofWestchester for 7 years in a row! He also highlighted the important restoration of #HRMGlenview: “Hudson River Museum’s Glenview, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, even serves as the backdrop for the award-winning television series ‘The Gilded Age.’ There, the Museum and the City are embarking on capital improvements that will restore the building’s exterior. This will not only preserve that historic structure, but protect the significant art collection that is within.” Thank you to Mayor Spano for all you do for the City of Yonkers and the Hudson River Museum! • Who’s excited to watch the season finale of #Severance? Let us put it monosyllabically like Mr. Milchik: We can't wait! 🐐 After the finale airs, you can still channel your inner Severed Lumon employee by visiting the show’s filming locations. A recent article from People.com featured a handy list of spots where Severance was filmed, including the HRM! Although the Perpetuity Wing in the show may be deep underground, in real life, you can visit and take a guided tour of the building that was featured as Kier’s replica home! The building is actually #HRMGlenview, a real Gilded Age historic home on the National Register of Historic Places. Museum hours: Wednesday–Friday, 12–5pm, Saturday & Sunday, 11am–5pm Read about all the filming locations at hrm.org/currents Westchester County Tourism & Film #Severance #AppleTV #AppleTVPlus #SeveranceAppleTV #SeverenceFinale #PeopleMagazine #PerpetuityWing
