We are reflecting on PEAK Grantmaking 2025 in New Orleans — and still feeling inspired. 🎷✨ The theme “Onward: Leading with Courage” was a timely call to action for philanthropy. Here are Megan Hophan's key takeaways: 1️⃣ Listen to grantees 2️⃣ Balance urgent needs with long-term change 3️⃣ Lead with courage 4️⃣ Evolve our practices to meet the moment Read more in her latest white paper Practical Grantmaking: How to Achieve More with Less Overhaul. https://bit.ly/43PmcV7

A week out from #CIES2025 and I find myself still reflecting on what it means to envision education in a truly digital society. As AI tools, education apps, and web-based platforms rapidly reshape learning in some parts of the world, there’s a growing divide between what’s possible in theory and what’s actually practical on the ground in low-resource contexts. During our panel, I had the privilege of presenting alongside Anne Breivik, Tewodros Aragie Kebede, and Cathrine Tomte, and chaired by Leslie Casely-Hayford to explore the analogue realities that define much of our work in Africa. At Geneva Global, we’ve seen how low-tech solutions—like SMS and WhatsApp and Zoom Webinars—have a powerful impact when designed with context in mind. These tools supported professional development, strengthened systems, and kept learning moving during the pandemic—and they continue to do so today. Community-rooted approaches like the Speed School program remain essential for reaching out-of-school children and building capacity where digital infrastructure is limited. Ed-tech can play a role, but it isn’t a silver bullet. I would be remiss not to mention how different the conference felt this year. Many familiar faces and institutions were notably absent, a reflection of the rapidly evolving international development landscape. Their voices were missed—and their perspectives remain crucial as we navigate the future of global education together. #CIES25 #AcceleratedEducation #DigitalDivide #EdTech #TeacherProfessionalDevelopment #SpeedSchool #GenevaGlobal

Our President & CEO Scott Jackson shares insights on his leadership approach in the podcast Success Beneath the Surface. Listen now! 🎧
I was recently fortunate to be interviewed by Deborah S. Fell for two episodes of the insightful podcast, Success Beneath the Surface. In EP89: "Take Me With You: How a CEO's Early Lessons in Trust Shape Modern Leadership," I shared how trust played a foundational role in shaping my leadership journey and how it continues to impact my approach today. Then, in EP90: "When Leadership Feels Like Going Slower to Go Faster," we dive into the paradox of leadership — how stepping back, creating space for others, and taking a slower approach can often accelerate long-term growth. You can listen to both episodes below. Hope you find them valuable, and feel free to share your thoughts and experiences with me as well. Yesterday, Managing Director Joshua Muskin presented the Speed School program in Ethiopia and Uganda to a group of about 35 education managers from the Global Partnership for Education and the World Bank, who joined him from around the world. They showed particular interest in the considerable progress towards government adoption of the Speed School model and methods. Thanks to all who joined the discussion!
