Geneva Global’s Post

Geneva Global reposted this

A week out from #CIES2025 and I find myself still reflecting on what it means to envision education in a truly digital society. As AI tools, education apps, and web-based platforms rapidly reshape learning in some parts of the world, there’s a growing divide between what’s possible in theory and what’s actually practical on the ground in low-resource contexts. During our panel, I had the privilege of presenting alongside Anne Breivik, Tewodros Aragie Kebede, and Cathrine Tomte, and chaired by Leslie Casely-Hayford to explore the analogue realities that define much of our work in Africa. At Geneva Global, we’ve seen how low-tech solutions—like SMS and WhatsApp and Zoom Webinars—have a powerful impact when designed with context in mind. These tools supported professional development, strengthened systems, and kept learning moving during the pandemic—and they continue to do so today. Community-rooted approaches like the Speed School program remain essential for reaching out-of-school children and building capacity where digital infrastructure is limited. Ed-tech can play a role, but it isn’t a silver bullet. I would be remiss not to mention how different the conference felt this year. Many familiar faces and institutions were notably absent, a reflection of the rapidly evolving international development landscape. Their voices were missed—and their perspectives remain crucial as we navigate the future of global education together. #CIES25 #AcceleratedEducation #DigitalDivide #EdTech #TeacherProfessionalDevelopment #SpeedSchool #GenevaGlobal
