Are you involved in facilitating a youth summer program? Would you be interested in offering FREE meals for those children? If the answer is yes, we have the perfect program for you! The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) offers FREE healthy meals to children aged 18 and under during the summer months when school meals are unavailable. SFSP is funded by the USDA and administered by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). Through this program, your site can provide breakfast, lunch, or even snacks to children in your community. SFSP participation is free and available from June through August. With Spring gearing up, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan is looking forward to amping up our Backpack and Summer Feeding programs. These play a huge role in supporting young people through the weekends and summer days by providing over a MILLION meals a year between the two programs. In response to the declared state of emergency in Northern Michigan, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan is mobilizing emergency food distributions to provide critical relief to affected communities. These distributions aim to support residents facing hardships due to the emergency conditions. “We understand the challenges that families are facing due to the ongoing emergency, and we are committed to ensuring access to nutritious food during this difficult time,” said Kara Ross, CEO & President of the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. “With the support of our community partners, we are working swiftly to provide essential resources to those in need.” Residents in need of food assistance are encouraged to attend the distribution nearest to them. No pre-registration is required, and food will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan continues to work closely with local agencies, volunteers, and donors to provide immediate and ongoing support to communities in crisis.
