A non-profit organization dedicated to relieving hunger and food insecurity in metro Detroit.

About us

Forgotten Harvest was formed in 1990 to fight two problems: hunger and waste. Forgotten Harvest “rescued” and distributed 40 million pounds of food last year by collecting surplus prepared and perishable food from 800 sources, including grocery stores, fruit and vegetable markets, restaurants, caterers, dairies, farmers, wholesale food distributors and other Health Department-approved sources. This donated food, which would otherwise go to waste, is delivered free-of-charge to more than 200 emergency food providers in the Metro Detroit area. • It's a VERY #THANKFULTHURSDAY!! Adrian Lewis, FH CEO, hosted a recognition luncheon at the Detroit Athletic Club for the Harvest Hero volunteer drivers who have been with Forgotten Harvest for more than five years. Eight volunteers out of a group of 13 were able to attend. There were also several members of Forgotten Harvest leadership in attendance to join the conversation. Adrian gave a brief summary of the strategic direction for the company and took any questions from the volunteers. Thank you Heroes! We 💚 YOU! Interested in becoming a Harvest Hero? Please contact Dan Burbulla at (248)930-4255 or dburbulla@forgottenharvest.org.

A celebrity chef.  A livestream cook-off.  A record-breaking fundraiser—in the middle of a pandemic. When the world shut down during the height of COVID-19, my team and I saw an opportunity to bring people together for a cause that couldn’t wait. Flow Video partnered with Forgotten Harvest to produce a full-length live-streamed cook-off benefit event featuring Food Network Chef Amanda Freitag. The result? A dynamic, high-impact virtual fundraiser that reached thousands of viewers online and raised more than any fall fundraiser in the nonprofit’s history. Pulling this off took serious grit and creativity. Over 20 crew members came together—masked, socially-distanced, and determined—to plan, produce, and edit a complex multi-cam production that blended heart, flavor, and mission. I'm endlessly proud of what our team accomplished and the purpose behind it. This is why I do what I do. 🔗 Full Case Study: https://lnkd.in/gpyaFfAu Hats of to the Team: Brandon Mata Steven Pankotai Devin Polaski Rich Tran Elise Ritschdorff Shane Mcmurphy Alexander Jacobson Jason Lanham Erik Steele Trevor Stevens Spencer Haydo Matthew Sisco Ryan Cunningham Megan Simmons Jamie Savalle Ava Bernacki

Community is everything. During these uncertain times for social sector nonprofits, there's nothing more important than gathering as a community to collaborate and share ideas on how we can all collectively support one another. My colleague Marisa Swystun and I were fortunate enough to host a nonprofit panel this week, where we brought together organizations, professionals, and philanthropists to hear what's in store for the nonprofit/philanthropic sector in 2025 and how fiduciaries and funders are responding to the evolving landscape. We couldn't have asked for more authentic and intentional leaders in the form of our panelists. Dr. Darienne Hudson of United Way for Southeastern Michigan, Diallo Smith of Life Remodeled, and Adrian Lewis of Forgotten Harvest, shared their experiences and how they're navigating and leading their respective organizations through uncertain times. A special thank you to Life Remodeled for partnering with us to host this event at their beautiful Durfee Innovation Society center, as well as to my colleague James Seth Thompson for his partnership and national leadership guiding the important work we do at Bernstein for causes like this and communities like Detroit. We look forward to continuing the momentum and convening the community again at our upcoming nonprofit forum in the fall. 📸: Darren Clark, Redfoot Vegas

💥 Another $10,000 Making a Difference! 💥 Last night, The 100 Men Club had the privilege of visiting Forgotten Harvest and presenting a $10,000 check to support their powerful mission of fighting hunger in our community. Adrian Lewis (CEO) and Sydney Johnson (Community Engagement Coordinator) accepted the donation on behalf of Forgotten Harvest and graciously led our members on a tour of their impressive 78,000 sq. ft. facility, showcasing the scale and impact of their operation. 👏 Representing The 100 Men Club were members Dave Griffin (who nominated Forgotten Harvest), Mike Dembicki, Mike Blackburn, Martin Kinsella, and Matthew Vazana. 📊 Some incredible stats from Forgotten Harvest: 150,000 lbs of food distributed every day. Nearly 50 million lbs distributed last year. 44,000 families supported annually. 185 partner sites. 45 + vehicles, distributing food 6 days a week. 120 staff + 1,000s of volunteer hours. A proud member of Feeding America. We’re excited to welcome the Forgotten Harvest team to our June 5th meeting where they’ll share more about their mission and how we can continue to support their vital work. 🙏 Thank you to all our members—your donations make this possible. Let’s keep pushing forward and changing lives together. www.100MenClub.com #100MenClub #ForgottenHarvest #GiveBack #CommunityImpact #FightingHunger #NonprofitSupport #CheckPresentation Kendall Bush ✔ Product Innovation Executive Keith A. We're all smiles at Forgotten Harvest! 😄 Our group of 11 volunteers spent an afternoon making a positive impact, filling hundreds of bags with chocolate chips for local soup kitchens. "It was a wonderful experience helping in the community, and I am for sure doing it again!" said Lauren M, Branch Manager. "It's so important to be a presence in the community and let people know that Credit Union ONE cares. It was also fabulous talking to people in our organization to get to know them on a more personal level!" #PeopleHelpingPeople #Community #CreditUnion #Volunteering
