About us
The Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies) is an independent registered charity (Registered Charity No. 1159000) set up in 2014 to preserve and protect the physical and mental wellbeing of the next generation of farmers. The charity helps to raise awareness of, and address the attitudes and behaviours around, risk-taking and poor mental health in the agricultural sector throughout the UK. Agriculture continues to have the poorest safety record of any occupation in the UK accounting for 1% of the UK’s working population but 16% of all workplace deaths. 21 farm workers and 6 members of the public (including a child) lost their lives on GB farms in the past year according to the 2022/2023 HSE Fatal Injuries in Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing GB report. The charity doesn’t just raise awareness of farm safety, it is continuing to drive a real cultural change in attitudes and behaviours to risk-taking and poor mental health in the next generation of farmers through: • High quality training, learning and skills development - The award-winning Introduction to Farm Safety training sessions have been delivered to over 23,000 young farmers at land-based colleges and universities across the UK and through the young farmers clubs network. • Working in partnership with key sector stakeholders, settings and groups to reduce risk taking and poor safety behaviours and provide support. • Running campaigns (Farm Safety Week / Mind Your Head) to raise awareness, reduce stigma and increase help seeking • Sector-leading research into attitudes and behaviours to understand the risk factors around farm safety and poor mental health; and • Using this evidence to influence policy, practice and change Through its ambitious education programme, resources, research and award-winning national campaigns, the charity is ensuring those making their journey into agriculture are equipped with the skills and confidence to live well and farm well.

Simple but brilliant advice 💛
With spring work really starting to get underway on farms around the country, here’s a reminder to make safety a priority. Our thanks to Arran farmer Callum Lindsay for demonstrating that it takes less than five seconds to put your quad bike helmet on. Five seconds that could save your life, save your family from heartbreak and save your farm business from disaster. We know that when you are busy, working long hours to look after livestock and work on the land you can get tired and judgement errors and mistakes can be the result. Please #UseYourHelmet and prioritise your safety and wellbeing. And take a few extra seconds to assess risk in whatever you are doing. ❤️ #KeepSafe #KeepTalking NFU SCOTLAND Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies) NFU Mutual Women in Agriculture Scotland

Our 2025 #MindYourHead campaign draws to a close today so we thought that we’d end on a positive note … after all, positivity is something we could ALL do with a little more of at this time 💛 #LoveYouMate
Happy Valentine's Day 💛 A day to show love and appreciation for the important people in your life. In farming, we’re often too busy to take the time so why not reach out today and remind friends, family and those around you that they matter and how much you care #LOVEYOUMATE 3 little words that deserve to be heard. We're ending our 2025 #MINDYOURHEAD campaign with another social experiment featuring some familiar farming faces sharing their love and positivity. After all, positivity is something I think we could ALL do with a bit more of, at this time 💛 Alix Morley Megan Bailey Sophie Marsh Bizza Walters Jo Lumani MCIPR Sam Oatey Lewis Gillingham David Exwood Olly Harrison DL Daniel Boomer Ioan Humphreys Wallace Currie NFU Mutual NFU (National Farmers' Union)

Today marks the start of our 8th annual #MindYourHead campaign... There have been huge steps taken over the past 8 years but there have also been huge challenges. While we are seeing more openness around what used to be a taboo subject in the industry, we have to remember that we all have mental health - sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s not so good - a bit like farming. There will always be highs and lows but each day brings a fresh start. 💛 Stephanie Berkeley ARAgS Alix Morley Megan Bailey Sophie Marsh Luc Edwards Jo Lumani MCIPR NFU Mutual

So this was a day like no other for the Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies) team… Megan Bailey Alix Morley and I travelled to East Scryne Farm, Carnoustie to launch our series of ‘In Discussion With…’ roundtables. As next week is our #MindYourHead week, we kicked off with a discussion about tackling rural isolation and loneliness with a group of young farmers from the Angus area. We were also joined by Penny Montgomerie and NFU Mutual chair Jim McLaren MBE FRAgS and absolutely delighted to have a very special visitor join the conversation - HRH The Duke of Rothesay 💛

Thank you BBC Landward for supporting the RSABI and our #useyourhead campaign and of course - well done to Callum 💛
Many thanks to the BBC Landward team for helping to raise awareness of the importance of wearing a helmet on a quad bike and travelling to Arran today to interview Callum Lindsay. Callum sustained major injuries when he was catapulted off his quad after hitting a rock hidden under bracken and feels very lucky to have survived. He is acutely aware of the impact his accident had on his family and his farming business too and determined to encourage others to get behind the #UseYourHead campaign run by RSABI in partnership with Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies). Many thanks to Callum and the Landward team! 💙💛 #UseYourHelmet #KeepTalking #keepsafe #farming
