Mayor Cassie Franklin was selected for the 2025 cohort of the Mayors Innovation Project Mayors Institute on Pedestrian Safety! For a growing city like Everett, traffic safety is a crucial component of public safety. We’ve seen some incredibly heart-breaking accidents on our roadways in recent years and Mayor Franklin believes it's imperative that we take action to improve pedestrian safety. As the City of Everett advances this work through the Vision Zero Everett action plan, she's proud to support our efforts through her involvement in the Mayors Institute on Pedestrian Safety, at no cost to our city. "It's an honor to be invited back," said Mayor Franklin. "During my first session, we focused on the Silver Lake Trail and, through my involvement, received unmatched access to experts, innovative tools and data-backed best practices that helped identify solutions specific to our city's needs – solutions that helped us successfully complete that project. I look forward to working with my fellow mayors and bringing back new ideas that will make Everett's streets safer for everyone." The CARE team has established strong relationships with our City departments including Police, Fire, Public Works, Transit and the Library - and this collaboration is enhancing our ability to help people in our community. Between October 2024 and February 2025, the CARE team received over 250 calls for service from the Everett Police Department alone and worked closely with them to create an easy way to make referrals. One such call resulted after Officer Eastham assisted Ronnie and Deanna (shown in image) with accessing the cold weather shelter. The CARE team followed up the next day, connecting them to case management and helping them access a phone to stay in touch about their appointments. Most recently, we received an update that they moved into an apartment and have made major strides addressing other important needs. Join us in congratulating Ronnie and Deanna! And a big thank you to our Police and Community Support Teams. We appreciate all the work you do to support our community members and give them opportunities for stability and success! Like cities across our country, there are members of our community on our streets struggling with #substanceusedisorder. To #reducebarriers to treatment, we partnered with Conquer Clinics to launch the Emergency Mobile Opioid Team in Everett (#EMOTE) program. EMOTE brings #treatment and #peercounseling directly to those who need it most - meeting individuals where they are, literally. Since launching in July, EMOTE has served over 260 community members, including helping 30 people secure detox placement.
