Bio-based, repairable & recyclable vitrimer composites & advanced sensors for highly reliable, sustainable wind blades

About us

The EOLIAN project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement no. 101147532. OUR PARTNERS: Proplast (project coordinator), Politecnico di Milano, Zorlu Enerji, IRES, Norvento Enerxía, Tekniker, European Composites Industry Association (EuCIA), AEP Polymers, Entelea, Brunel Composites Centre (Brunel University London). OUR GOAL: The development of wind turbine blades with longer lifetime, better maintainability and reliability, together with higher sustainability and recyclability. This will be achieved by the use of biobased reparable and recyclable basalt fibre-reinforced vitrimer composites and the integration of advanced recyclable sensors and actuators which will perform structural health monitoring of the blades. The design phases will be supported by advanced multiscale modelling to ensure the highest performance levels and by LCA-based environmental analysis to guarantee the best approach in terms of carbon footprint and sustainability. Funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or CINEA. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.
