Practical, pioneering solutions to the world’s energy and environmental challenges.
About us
The Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC) is recognized as one of the world's leading developers of cleaner, more efficient energy to power the world and environmental technologies to protect and clean our air, water, and soil. Today’s energy and environmental needs require a total-systems approach that focuses on technical details while retaining a broad perspective. Utilizing over 65 years of energy research, we are a driving force for innovation and new opportunities in the energy industry. Our research portfolio consists of a wide array of strategic energy and environmental solutions, including oil and gas, clean coal technologies, CO2 sequestration, energy and water sustainability, hydrogen technologies, air toxics and fine particulate, mercury measurement and control, alternative fuels, wind energy, biomass, water management, flood prevention, global climate change, waste utilization, energy-efficient technologies, and contaminant cleanup. We are a high-tech, nonprofit branch of the University of North Dakota (UND), working in partnership with clients to develop, refine, demonstrate, and commercialize marketable products that provide practical solutions to real-world challenges.

Exciting progress underway! 🚧 Thank you, Origen, for making the trip to Grand Forks and for your collaboration on this groundbreaking project. We’re thrilled to see construction moving forward and look forward to sharing more updates as we advance carbon removal solutions together! #CarbonRemoval #DirectAirCapture #CCUS #EnergyInnovation
Following the close of our Series A fundraise earlier this year, team Origen has gone straight to work. Last week, Origen visited the Energy & Environmental Research Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota where the two organizations are collaborating to build a large-scale demonstration of Origen's direct-air-capture technology. The project has officially kicked off construction and the early progress is impressive. Stay tuned for continued status updates and testing results later this year! https://lnkd.in/g9btvDEN

Exploring new ways to turn local resources into valuable products! Our team is testing how adding lignite-derived graphitic carbon (LDGC) to North Dakota’s glacial clay could create stronger, value-added composite materials. If successful, this research could transform often unwanted clay material into high-demand products like tiles and construction materials for roads, buildings, and patios. Not only would this add value to our state’s natural resources, but it could also open new market opportunities for lignite, boosting North Dakota’s economy in the process. #ExploratoryResearch #PioneeringSpirit #SERC #WorkYouCanBeProudOf #GlacialClay #NDLignite #AdvancedMaterials #CoalIndustry
