About us
Eion works with American heartland communities to safely and permanently remove CO2 through enhanced rock weathering (ERW). We figured out how to measure ERW in the field and turn it into a scalable climate solution that removes carbon dioxide, improves soil health, and puts people to work.

Global temperatures crossed the tipping point of 1.5°C warming last year. Our planet demands solutions that can scale as aggressively as our challenge. Frontier's $33 million commitment to Eion’s farmer-first enhanced rock weathering is the kind of catalytic action that will push ERW past its own tipping point, from a new-kid-on-the-block CDR pathway to one of rapid, reliable industrial scale. This landmark deal will remove 78,707 tons of CO2 by 2030 in partnership with two of North America's largest agricultural cooperatives. GROWMARK, Inc.'s extensive network of 400,000+ farmers and Southern Ag Services’s deep regional expertise, paired with Eion’s fast-weathering olivine feedstock and industry-leading MRV, together create a path to rapidly scale ERW across US commercial agriculture and onto new geographies, land types, and feedstocks. Born from the conviction that carbon removal must work within existing systems rather than compete with them, Eion is hell-bent on connecting climate dollars to the heartland communities that feed our planet and bringing agriculture into the decarbonization economy. Catalytic purchases like Frontier’s directly fund this mission, filling a critical gap at a time when voters and taxpayers want to see immediate, tangible benefits to their lands and communities during the energy transition. THANK YOU to Judy Savitskaya, Hannah Bebbington, Joanna Klitzke, Andrew Shea, Nan Ransohoff, Molly Niffenegger, Florian Maganza, Stripe, Google, Shopify, Autodesk, H&M Group, JPMorganChase, McKinsey & Company, Workday, Salesforce, Watershed, Lance Ruppert, Cam Smith, Mitt Wardlaw, Sibelco Group and all our partners across the value chain who share this conviction. Onward to a future where we actually make a damn dent in that 1.5, by harnessing the combined force of minerals, soils, and the communities and supply chains that work them both.

We’re excited to be part of the Carbon Removal Alliance! 🌱 Together, we're pushing for policies that ensure high-quality standards in the U.S. carbon removal market. #CarbonRemoval #Sustainability #ClimateAction #MRV
Three words will help shape the next phase of the carbon removal market scale-up: Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV). For buyers, innovators, and those just trying to understand the climate benefit of carbon removal, establishing clear and consistent quality measures through MRV policy is critical. Our new policy roadmap charts a course for the U.S. government to help scale the industry, bring down prices per ton, and ensure that all carbon removal efforts are helping us meet our climate goals. "Carbon removal buyers want a transparent market that they can understand," said Executive Director of the Carbon Removal Alliance, Giana Amador. "The federal government should establish clear and consistent MRV standards to bolster competitiveness and trust in this critical industry. This is a crucial step for the continued growth of the carbon removal market.” Read the full policy report: https://lnkd.in/gf3_XzYP

We're proud to be among the first 10 ERW companies to commit real data to advance the industry. By providing visibility into our real-world deployments – which cumulatively represent over 200x more area than all academic field trials combined – we can jumpstart a virtuous cycle of deployment-led learning. Transparency breeds trust, and we're just getting started. Thank you to Cascade Climate for bringing everyone together!
Today, Cascade Climate is introducing the ERW Data Quarry, the first-ever Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) data sharing system together with 10 leading ERW companies – Alt Carbon, Andes, Carbonaught Pty Ltd, Eion, Flux, InPlanet, Mati Carbon, Terradot, V6 Agronomy, and ZeroEx – who have proactively committed to sharing commercial datasets as a part of this system. This is one of the first systems of its kind to proactively share commercial data for the benefit of broad scientific learning in the CDR space. Frontier, as a leading catalytic buyer coalition in the space, has also committed to requiring dataset contributions to the ERW Data Quarry as part of recent pre-purchases and future ERW offtakes. Milkywire, another catalytic ERW buyer, will also incorporate data sharing requirements in their next major ERW purchase. These buyers are helping to signal the importance of community-wide data sharing in growing a quality ERW market. Enhanced Rock Weathering has immense potential to deliver meaningful carbon removal and agricultural benefits–but there remain a number of open scientific questions related to carbon removal quantification and safety that will be critical to address to unlock this potential. Providing access and visibility into the datasets of commercial ERW deployments – which cumulatively represent over 200x more area than all academic field trials combined – is critical to answer the most pressing scientific questions facing the field, and can help to jumpstart a virtuous cycle of deployment-led learning. At Cascade, we are committed to stewarding this data sharing process to support the ERW community in advancing the most pressing scientific questions – and we hope that this data sharing system is just the beginning. In the meantime, tip your hat to the leading companies who have rolled up their sleeves, moved from talk to action, and are committing real data to advance the state of ERW science. https://lnkd.in/guEaKNim Tannis Thorlakson Vilas Rao

A moment of celebration for the industry! The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) just announced $58 million in funding for projects removing atmospheric carbon. We received Carbon Negative Shots for both our independent efforts and a collaborative project with Stanford. Part of DOE's larger Energy Earthshots initiative, the Carbon Negative Shot is an amazing effort to drive the scale and scope of durable carbon removal by investing in innovation. Cheers to all of the recipients!

Our collaboration with Microsoft reflects our partners’ confidence in both Eion's strategy for enhanced rock weathering and the potential of this category to quickly reach gigaton-scale carbon removal. This fall, we are excited to partner with farmers in the Mid-Atlantic to deploy our olivine and measure every ton of carbon that Eion eliminates! #carbonremoval #enhancedrockweathering #climateaction #climateweek
