“Arab-American students, like all students, thrive when they’re seen, believed in, and challenged. Believe in their potential, create a space where they feel like they belong, and watch them rise.” - Neda Simaika, Major Gifts Officer In honor of #ArabAmericanHeritageMonth, we’re spotlighting Arab-American staff members. Growing up in New Jersey but spending summers in Egypt, Neda was exposed to uniquely different cultures early on. Her experiences in both environments helped her understand how our education and our sense of belonging shape who we are. When Neda became a US citizen in high school, her school community in NY made Neda feel valued and supported. She’ll never forget the feeling of opening all the cards her friends on the swim team made in honor of her citizenship. For Neda, school isn’t just about academic success — educators play a vital role in shaping safe environments where students feel seen and valued. Now as a parent of two, Neda considers herself to be her children's first teacher by introducing them to the world. Neda also credits her mom, a pharmacist and former educator, for being her first teacher in life, and instilling the values of education and discipline. Through her role as a Major Gift Officer at DonorsChoose, Neda helps teachers get the resources they need to provide compassionate, supportive, and caring environments for their students . Thanks to Neda for sharing her story and for her commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable future for students!
