Great to catch up with Robin King from BAR Associates, Richard Barrington from JET Connectivity (I apologise for the shocking coffee, the tea was no better!) Expanding my network - fabulous to meet Brendan McGrath, Rob Watson, Brian Clarke, Dan Couchman and Lorna Wagner from Maritime UK Solent. Thanks to Sharon J., for the session on 'Working with Defence' - the opportunities for supplying into defence, what they are looking for and what support is available. With MOD being UK industry's largest single customer, with a planned spend of £210BN on equipment and support in the next decade, there should be major opportunities for organisations to grasp. Valuable input and support from Claire Budden, from Navy Commercial, Sam Zwolinski from Defence and Security Accelerator, Ned Vardey from Ploughshare and Kevin Forshaw from University of Plymouth. A very different location for the Things Connected meeting today! Hosted at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton, it was fascinating to hear about the technology they use to gain a deep knowledge of the oceans. Vessels and gliders that undertake testing and data collection on ice, EDNA, temperature, oxygenation, nutrients, cable monitoring etc. Huge thanks to Mark Hamson MIEx and his team for hosting us, and sharing the breadth of knowledge and experience. I'll definitely be booking to attend Ocean Business, with my Business Partner Chris Wardman, in April to see much more! In the meantime, looking forward to exploring further how the drones from Vaspba RPS Ltd could collaborate in this space, especially with their IP67 rating and soon to be fitted UK components. The addition of the water sampling, gas detection and sonar accessories, could also be of massive relevance, and great to see how we can link air and marine autonomy. The team were delighted to be invited to display the Vaspba RPS Ltd Delta Tango product today at the STRIDE Innovation For Business Conference - Making the Change for Tomorrow, at the BattleLab. Why? Well, 'Making the Change for Tomorrow' is exactly what we are doing as a business. Having recently secured an innovation funding grant (STRIDE Dorset is funded by UK Government and Dorset Council UK), it has enabled the purchase of additional equipment for R&D, as well as fantastic support services through Plymouth City Council to enable us to develop further product and web development. The event, sponsored by Leonardo UK and Supacat, brought together stakeholders from Parliament, Government, academia and industry from across the region, to launch the first-ever Great South West Regional Defence Prospectus. The prospectus, produced by Copper Turtle, sets out the region’s world-class defence sector and the critical role it plays in national security and economic growth, including advanced manufacturing, cyber security and global defence innovation.
