Happy World Creativity and Innovation Day! At CXL, creativity and innovation fuel our mission. With our Sentinel, we're reimagining biodiversity protection by transforming traditional wildlife monitoring tools. Using intuitive, onboard AI, Sentinel processes environmental data in real time—detecting invasive species, poaching, wildlife trafficking, zoonotic diseases, and behavioral changes as they happen. One of our most powerful deployments happened in the Peruvian Amazon, where Sentinel now helps park rangers protect one of the most remote ecosystems on Earth. Watch our documentary to see how with innovation and cutting-edge technology we're reshaping conservation in the Amazon: https://lnkd.in/eBKZBAJU

Reinventing conservation to prevent the Sixth Mass Extinction.
About us
Conservation X Labs is creating a new model for conservation, built on the exponential technologies & connectivity, coupled with financial and behavior change innovations, and scaled through the private sector, partnerships with conservation organizations, and collaborations with governments and intergovernmental entities. By harnessing the democratization of science and technology, we can finally allow conservation to operate at the pace and on the scale necessary to keep up with and even get head of the planet’s most intractable environmental challenges. There is a clear need to accelerate conservation solutions, harness new technologies, and draw upon new solvers and new solutions through new approaches. Importantly, we also know we can work through the private sector to improve the efficacy, impact, sustainability, and scale of conservation efforts while building sustainable income for communities that rely on those resources. Finally, humans are at the center of conservation problems. Any approach to conservation needs to change the incentive structures, both in biodiversity-rich countries, and in those countries that generate the demand for products and goods that put pressure on those systems. We can apply what we know from behavior and psychology, marketing, and social media to shift demand and incentive structures. Much as humans have created the problems, we have the means to solve them.

Continuing our Fire Grand Challenge finalist spotlight series! 🔥 We’re showcasing the incredible teams blending cutting-edge technical solutions with the power of community partnerships. This week, we’re featuring a groundbreaking team exploring how autonomous tech can support cultural fire practices: FireSwarm Solutions Inc & Cheslatta Contracting Limited Partnership, both from British Columbia, Canada. Their solution is an AI-driven fleet of drones designed to carry out cultural and prescribed burns, increasing ecosystem resilience, reducing wildfire risk, and supporting Indigenous-led fire stewardship. In the coming months, they’ll be testing their drone swarms to enhance wildfire suppression with a focus on safety, precision, and traditional knowledge. Stay tuned to follow their journey!

The Kopetdag Mountains, stretching along the border between Turkmenistan and Iran, are home to a rich variety of wildlife, including leopards. As the birthing season for their prey—the bezoar goats and urial sheep—approaches, it marks a critical time for the region’s ecosystem. However, this area is increasingly threatened by illegal poaching. Recently, our team encountered two groups of armed poachers. Thanks to the support of our Central Asia Program through Fondation Segré, we are now able to equip rangers with essential tools, including SMART technology, to enhance their patrols and improve safety. After the encounter, we reviewed our trail cameras and were relieved to spot Serdar, the local leopard, a powerful reminder of why our work to protect these majestic creatures is so crucial!

Introducing Our Fire Grand Challenge Finalist Spotlight Series! 🔥 Over the next few weeks, we’re shining a spotlight on our incredible finalist teams — blending cutting-edge technical solutions with the power of community partnerships. This week, we start with Coalitions & Collaboratives (Colorado, USA) & Skeena Watershed Conservation Coalition (British Columbia, Canada)! This team is pioneering a novel approach using native fungi to break down biomass, including both hazardous trees left from catastrophic burns and wood chip piles from restorative forest thinning. In the coming months, they’ll be testing their solution on Indigenous lands by inoculating fire-killed timber with their unique fungi to reduce wildfire fuel, improve soil health, and develop scalable wildfire mitigation strategies. Stay tuned to follow their journey! -- #CXLFireChallenge

Wild Me's Species Encounters Leaderboard! Last week, whale sharks, yellow-bellied toads, led our data leaderboard—species that couldn’t look more different but share the spotlight in our community! Here are the top species identified by the Wild Me community: - Whale shark - Yellow-bellied toad - Grévy's zebra - Sand tiger shark Wild Me’s technology is revolutionizing wildlife tracking and monitoring, and we couldn’t be prouder of the impact it’s making.

We are delighted to announce that effective March 31, 2025, Dr. Eric Dinerstein will join Conservation X Labs as Chief Scientist and Senior Conservation Counsel. Dr. Dinerstein brings a wealth of international experience over a long career as a field biologist, conservation strategist, tech innovator, and as an architect of strategic conservation partnerships to restore wild nature. He is also one of the world’s most frequently cited conservation biologists and a staunch advocate for peer-reviewed science driving best practices and policies. Eric developed the concepts and mapping of ecoregions and recently led the team that published the groundbreaking Conservation Imperatives analysis. Eric served as Chief Scientist at WWF for 25 years, and led the Biodiversity and Wildlife Solutions program at RESOLVE. He was the founder and CEO of Nightjar, a company that manufactured the award-winning technology, TrailGuard AI, an AI embedded, real-time, camera-alert system designed to detect poachers, promote human-wildlife coexistence, and monitor endangered wildlife.

Celebrating the International Day of Forests 🌲 Forests are essential to our planet’s health—providing habitat, regulating climate, and supporting biodiversity. As we work to better understand and protect them, innovation and technology are playing a key role. At CXL, we’re using Wild Me’s Scout to help inventory Giant Sequoias, which grow only in California’s Sierra Nevada, and to predict bark beetle impacts. This work contributes to new approaches in statistical population modeling, and we’ll share more about its potential impact soon. Advancing conservation through AI and data-driven insights is a core part of our work. Swipe to see a preview of this work! -- #InternationalDayofForests
