About us

Biobased chemicals and materials have a major role to play in the transition towards a circular bioeconomy to support the objective of UE to be carbon neutral in 2050. Following the European roadmaps and the regional strategies of the border areas between France, Wallonia and Flanders, the COMPOVERT project aims at developing functional composite materials with vegetal reinforcement, especially via the valorisation of local (by)-products such as lignocellulosic fibres or lignin. COMPOVERT relies on many actors of the value chain of plastic and biocomposites from Haut-de-France, Grand Est, Wallonia and Flanders, from agricultural producers (flax fibres, hemp, wood) to producers or end-users of composites within various areas such as transport, building industry, sport, consumer goods or medical devices,… Within this scope, COMPOVERT gathers five well renowned partners – Certech, CRITT Matériaux Innovation, IMT Nord Europe, Université de Liège-Gembloux Agrobiotech et Université Reims Champagne Ardennes – to answer this increasing demand for more performing, more ethical and more sustainable local biocomposites in collaboration with other associated partners within the region (Bioeconomy For Change, Valbiom, Greenwin et Centexbel). This partnership will be a major support for the biobased economy near the French-Belgian border by pooling both expertise and knowledge of different actors to support the industry of the region.
