About us
In 1991, California's environmental authority was unified in a single Cabinet level agency—the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA). Our mission is to restore, protect and enhance the environment, to ensure public health, environmental quality and economic vitality. We fulfill our mission by developing, implementing and enforcing the state's environmental protection laws that regulate clean air, clean water, clean soil, safe pesticides and waste recycling and reduction. Our departments are at the forefront of environmental science, using cutting-edge research to shape the state's environmental laws. The Office of the Secretary heads CalEPA and is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of one office, two boards, and three departments dedicated to improving California’s environment: Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment Air Resources Board State Water Resources Control Board Department of Pesticide Regulation Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery Department of Toxic Substances Control

💧Advancing the human right to water!💧 Today, State Water Board Member Nichole Morgan joined a celebration of the completion of the City Of Needles ‘s new, state-funded water system that ensures reliable access to #safedrinkingwater for its 5,000 residents. The city had struggled for years with poor water quality and aging facilities. The State Water Board's SAFER Program provided funding through a $14 million grant. "Helping communities in need is what we are here for. Thanks to the flexibility of our Safe and Affordable Funding for Equity and Resilience (SAFER) Program, we were able to pay for immediate repairs to the prior system as a short-term fix, then help the city define its long-term needs, apply for and receive a grant for an entirely new system. The city was a wonderful partner throughout this process ..." said Morgan. https://lnkd.in/gVJWp7x2 #NeedlesCA #SAFERProgram #WaterForAll #CleanWaterForAll

Board Member Nichole Morgan, along with staff from the Division of Water Quality, Division of Water Rights, Region 5, and California Department of Fish and Wildlife, visited the Clear Lake area to learn about progress and efforts in the restoration of the Clear Lake hitch population. "This progress wouldn't be possible without the incredible work by and collaboration with tribal and local partners. We're excited to continue to see improved water quality and an increase in the Hitch population," said Morgan. We'd like to thank the Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake, Robinson Rancheria, the BIG VALLEY BAND OF POMO INDIANS, the Lake County Farm Bureau, and partners in the Clear Lake area for their hospitality and educational look into the work behind protection and restoration of water quality and habitat for the Chi, also known as Clear Lake hitch.
