Paid travel + volunteering at its best — the 2025 Mars Anbassador Program (MAP) is here and applications are officially open! 🎉🙌✈️👩⚕️🐕🦺 Banfield Foundation, VCA Charities and BluePearl Cares (new!) is hosting and funding 6 MAP assignments and we’re looking to bring 25 Associates with us to Hawaii, Arizona, Bahamas, Navajo Nation and the Northern Mariana Islands to help make #abetterworldforpets ⬇️ 🌺 September 10 - 19: Banfield Foundation is once again bringing a team to Hawaii to work alongside PetFix (Big Island) and Maui Humane Society (Molokai) to spay/neuter as many dogs and cats as we can, alleviating a months long wait list and curbing the unwanted pet population. 🏜️ September 30 - October 6: Banfield Foundation is back with Red Rover, spending a week unchaining owned animals across Navajo Nation in New Mexico through building fences, enclosures, expanding safe living spaces, proving toys, enrichment and food. 🌴 September 13 - 27 and October 11 - 25: Banfield Foundation is (always) partnering with Saipan Humane Society on two trips to provide preventive + sick care and spay/neuter services to the remote island where no veterinary care exists. 💦 October 4 - 11: BluePearl Cares is hosting and funding its first ever MAP assignment to Bahamas Humane Society focusing on shelter and play yard renovation, surgery suite building, shelter dog enrichment and skill building and training. 🦮 November 1 - 8: VCA Charities is spending a week with Arizona Humane Society taking shelter dogs on field trips — sun up to sun down…playing, hiking, cuddling, walking, getting dogs adopted! Thanks to a $300,700 grant from the Banfield Foundation, the Arizona Humane Society was able to serve free veterinary care to over 2,198 pets in underserved areas, including tribal lands across Arizona.🐾💙 This funding allowed us to expand our services to communities such as the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community and the Hopi Reservation. With this support, we provided vital veterinary services that directly impacted both animals and their families. 🏥✨ We are deeply grateful to the Banfield Foundation for their ongoing commitment to the welfare of animals in need. This weekend, I had the opportunity to volunteer with Pet Fix, Care Knows No Bounds, and Banfield Foundation for a two-day spay/neuter clinic on the Big Island. We joined volunteers from Hawai’i, Florida, Colorado, and California came together with a shared goal: providing essential veterinary care to animals in need. Together, we spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated 410 cats, all 100% donation-based. We also performed an enucleation, giving one special cat a fresh start. Access to veterinary care is critical in controlling pet overpopulation and supporting communities. We want to give a massive THANK YOU to our incredible volunteers during International Volunteer Day today!!🧡 Did you know that we had 65 Banfield Associates volunteer nearly 3,900 hours this year on our Care Knows No Boundaries (CKNB) and Mars Ambassador Program (MAP) trips? Our CKNB and the MAP program enable veterinarians, and certified veterinary technicians to help remove geographic barriers that keep pets from receiving much-needed care.🤩🐾 One location that was particularly grateful for the MAP trips was the island of Saipan. With zero veterinarians on the island, even the happiest and healthiest of pets are not being adopted and the only way to help control the pet population without euthanasia is through spay and neuter efforts in partnership with Saipan Humane Society and our incredible volunteers. In 2024 alone, more than 50 days of free veterinary care, mentorship, and strategic support were provided. Last month alone, our volunteers helped provide 750 spays/neuters to help Saipan pets, while also treating hundreds of sick pets in need.🎉 We cannot do this work without our amazing vets and techs – we are so appreciative of their life-saving efforts that help create #abetterworldforpets. So excited to share Banfield Foundation and Banfield Pet Hospital partnered together to host its first-ever ‘Banfield Gives Back’ volunteer weekend on Navajo Nation in Farmington, New Mexico in late October. Ten Banfield volunteers worked side-by-side with our nonprofit partners at Underdog Animal Rescue and Rehab- Moab, UT and RedRover to make a measurable difference in under-resourced communities by providing critical veterinary services – including spay/neuter – for 729 owned and community animals as well as “unchaining” resources (expanded enclosures, provide dog houses, food and enrichment items) for 32 loved dogs living on chains their entire lives. #banfieldfoundation also provided enough pet food to feed 700 owned pets who otherwise struggle to find enough regular food. 📸 This is what full circle, comprehensive care looks like! In very remote places like Saipan, happy/healthy/loving dogs are rarely adopted and #spayneuter is the only way to slow down heartbreaking euthanasia rates. With zero veterinarians on the island it can feel pretty impossible. This is exactly why Banfield Foundation and BluePearl Cares have committed to sending rotations of highly skilled ER and specialty veterinatians, incredible surgeons and the best vet techs in the business to make #accesstocare possible. In 2024 alone, more than 50 days of free veterinary care, mentorship and strategic support were provided. And just last month, we completed 750 spays/neuters + so many sick and well pet visits through the Mars Ambassador Program and our brilliant Ambassadors from Banfield Pet Hospital, BluePearl Pet Hospital and VCA Animal Hospitals. I’m also so proud that Banfield Foundation funded the opening of the only clinic on the island in partnership with Saipan Humane Society while BluePearl Cares volunteers trained, educated and mentored every staff member and animal control officer so 8,000 pets annually will have a chance for veterinary care even when we are not on the island.
