AIRSHIP is a EU-funded research project that envisions an innovative use of a known transportation mean: flying ships.
About us
AIRSHIP is an EC-funded project that envisions an innovative use of a known transportation mean: flying ships. Such vehicles (also known as ekranoplans or wing-in-ground -WIG vehicles) inherit all the advantages of conventional airborne transportation, while being more energy efficient and environmentally friendly, both from the carbon footprint and the acoustic noise pollution point of view. AIRSHIP aims to lay the foundations of a new class of fully electrical unmanned aircraft system, the UWV (Unmanned WIG Vehicle) that brings together speed, flexibility and energy efficiency. The Consortium is comprised of: Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (coordinator) Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science of Porto TRISOLARIS Advanced Technologies Tampere University Tallin University of Technology Université de Luxembourg La Palma Research Centre S.L. 👏 Welcome to the #AviationTwinTransition Cluster to the Di-Pegasus project. 🌐 We are working hard on organising the upcoming webinars and the Clustering Event in Athens, on July 29-30th, 2025. 👉 You can still participate in the event, sign up here: https://lnkd.in/gQGjRdYq
📣 We’re proud to announce that Di-Pegasus is now part of the #AviationTwinTransition (ATT) Cluster! The ATT cluster is a coalition of EU-funded projects founded by RefMap Project and ImAFUSA. ✈️ Together, we will work towards sustainable, digital, and socially responsible aviation solutions. 🎯 More specifically, this partnership aims to: 🔹 Enable competitive new European business models and products with minimal environmental impact; 🔹 Transform digital aviation and space technologies as well as Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS); 🔹 Enable new services with pronounced societal impact for transport, search and rescue operations, high-altitude earth data-services, and more; 🔹 Leverage new aviation products and services that exploit Artificial Intelligence for greater productivity and efficiency, and cost reduction; 🔹 Minimise the risks posed by emerging threats to aviation such as cybersecurity threats, pandemic diseases, extreme weather conditions; 🔹 Leverage technologies to improve emergency response in difficult-to-access areas, including open sea emergency response and following natural disasters; 🔹 Exploit additional synergies with aviation, space and defence. 👥 We are excited to be shaping the future of European aviation alongside our ATT Cluster partners, RefMap Project, ImAFUSA, AIRSHIP PROJECT COLOSSUS project and E-CONTRAIL project! 💡 For starters, we met to begin planning our first joint webinar, which will take place in June 2025. Stay tuned for the exact date, agenda and registration details! #AviationTwinTransition #DiPegasus #Aviation #Sustainability #sustainableaviation #environment #drones #HorizonEU

✈️ The COLOSSUS project, also part of the RefMap Project -led Aviation Twin Transition Cluster, is organising a challenge for Universities to design the perfect wildfire-fighting fleet of airplanes! If you are a University or University student, take a look at the conditions and sign up to receive more information 👇
🔥 Wildfire growth over the past few years has reached unprecedented and uncontrollable levels. Within 2023 alone, wildfires in Europe contributed to as much burnt area as twice that of Luxembourg and it is predicted that by 2050, the frequency of significant heatwaves and wildfires will grow up to +500%. Outside of Europe wildfires are just as severe, as within the first weeks of this year, wildfire devastation is breaking records. The Los Angeles wildfires are now the most costly in history, with economic loss predictions being close to $250 billion, dwarfing previous records, alongside the priceless loss of 27 human lives [AccuWeather.com]. With such concerns, the need for novel firefighting strategies and designs is rising. To aid in such efforts, the COLOSSUS project is hosting a design challenge targeting university students across the World! 🌍 🚀 The challenge: 🚀 Form a team with your peers with the task of designing new aircraft that can aid in the future of wildfire fighting whilst innovating on novel solutions that can be used alongside your aircraft. Develop creative wildfire fighting approaches in a set of scenarios, representing an open-ended problem where there is no "one size fits all" and multiple, disparate solutions are possible! Curate your firefighting fleet; from detection to suppression, teams will be given the chance to design the System of Systems (SoS) from the ground up. Fleet composition, suppression tactics, aircraft specific operations, and more are all modifiable! Put your engineering skills and ingenuity to the test with the SoS Xploration Grand Challenge! Universities can sign-up now 🔗 [https://lnkd.in/dBiNX9PB] and become part of the mailing list to stay updated with all challenge on-goings and discuss with the challenge committee. University sign-up deadline is February 15th with the challenge ending in August. Start dates will be set on a per University basis through bilateral agreement. Teams (BSc, MSc and PhD students) must have a valid university contact point to participate. 📣 Showcase your engineering ingenuity and problem-solving skills, with the winning team being rewarded with a sponsored European conference invitation in 2025! 💡
