Nothing can be more exciting and fulfilling than to present your "PhD research" among the community of best researchers in your field. Since the beginning of my PhD, as I got familiar with International Federation for Information Technologies and Travel & Tourism (IFITT), I had a dream to attend the annual ENTER e-Tourism conference one day. This year, I am fortunate to have this opportunity, thanks to the support of esteemed and respected researchers of my field, namely Professor Dimitrios Buhalis 迪米特里奥斯‧布哈里斯 教授, Prof. Ulrike Gretzel, Prof. Rodolfo Baggio, who recognize the value of my current research path. I am happy to have made new connections with Prof. Katarzyna Minor and Prof. Jacques Bulchand, who has been a valuable support for my application to the ENTER 25 conference. More importantly, I am extremely thankful to Prof. Patience Tropo and Prof. Yoo Ri Kim, who are continuously supporting my successful arrival in Wroclaw, Poland on 17 February 2025. Through this post, I would like to show my enthusiasm for e-Tourism and for all the excellent members and scholars of the IFITT community, who I am going to meet this year. I am open to suggestions to improve my current research for a better future of tourism and all the people associated with it. I might be a bit introverted to talk at first, but believe me, I love to meet and interact with new people. So, if you too are visiting the ENTER 25 Conference in Wroclaw, Poland, this year, please help me strike a conversation chord 😁. Lastly, I am equally thankful to my supervisor, Prof. Sonia Khan, and Prof. Dr. Dr. Roman Egger, whose support has been enlightening me since day one. Thank you so much! 🙏 #data #science #bigdata #tourism #research #etourism #enter25 #poland #wroclaw #phd #workshop

🌍 What Does Frugal Innovation Mean? 🌍 Frugal innovation is all about meeting needs in the simplest and most resource-efficient way possible. It’s about achieving more with less—focusing on sustainability and reducing environmental impact. According to Wikipedia, frugal innovation promotes smart, streamlined solutions that use minimal resources while maximizing value. 🚀 The Citeuropass Programme exemplifies this approach, empowering European students from universities like Grenoble (UGA, France), Banska Bystrica (UMB, Slovakia), Sofia (NBU, Bulgaria), Iasi (Alexandru Ioan Cuza, Romania), and Bratislava (EU, Slovakia). Through collaboration with the Nemeton biolab and Kenwright Consulting, these students are creating impactful, eco-conscious solutions. Their mission? To rethink existing solutions and reduce their carbon footprint in a frugal way. Innovation is measured by how much the new solution improves environmental impact—less footprint, more sustainability! 🌱 🔧 5 projects have already been launched, with 3 focused on air and 2 on water. These initiatives are a huge step forward for both the environment and society. 📅 Want to learn more? Visit the Citeuropass exhibition, open until September 30th at the MACI (Saint Martin d'Hères campus, Grenoble, France), and explore these groundbreaking projects! In the week of May 20th to 24th, I will participate in Global Week at the Polytechnic University of Coimbra, promoted by the International Office. The theme of this edition of Global Week is mobility innovation. When preparing for my conference, I came across several questions related to the topic. What are the trends for international academic mobility? What will our future challenges be? And how will we respond to new challenges? Are we preparing to offer academic mobility programs to the new generations of students arriving at our institutions? How is your institution preparing for mobility innovation? What do you think about this topic?

The final day of our ERA Shuttle study visit, and today it’s “just family.” Dominika Butkiewicz of the University of Gdansk chaired a session in which we planned for future cross-sectoral trainings. Follow ERA Shuttle to get announcements of upcoming webinars and the next #summerschool in Gdansk! We wrapped up the study visit with a world café. We used the format to summarise what we learned about talent retention this week and what lessons we want to apply to ERA Shuttle. We identified measures under the following four points: Enhancing the institutional profile; Empowering people and caring for their legacy; A human-centric approach to motivations, needs and values; Work-life balance and intellectual freedom. Meet BUV Researchers 🌟 Today, we are excited to introduce Dr Simon Kimber, a Senior Lecturer at BUV and Head of the Centre for Postgraduate Studies. Dr. Kimber brings extensive expertise in teaching research methods and international business management, with a particular research focus on tourism, especially within the realm of Chinese tourism studies. Dr Kimber’s publications revolve around the rise of Asian backpacker tourism and the leisure uses of autonomous vehicles. He has explored how young Chinese independent travelers post on social media, emphasizing the performative aspects of tourism in the digital age. He is currently working with colleagues from Shanghai Normal University on the rise of Chinese volunteer tourism. Whilst many young western people take gap years in their studies, and volunteer for charities, little is known about this phenomenon from an Asian or Chinese perspective. Much of his research utilizes ethnographic and qualitative research methodologies. 💡 Dr. Simon shared about his work: “My research aims to uncover how tourism experiences are shaped by culture and technology, particularly in the context of social media. Exploring these dynamics not only sheds light on the motivations and behaviors of young travelers but also provides insights into how tourism evolves with each generation.” For students who are interested in doing research, Dr. Simon suggests that to enhance research engagement, students should start by identifying a topic that genuinely excites them, as passion drives deeper exploration and perseverance. Students should also consider reaching out to faculty members to assist in ongoing projects; contributing to research is a great way to gain experience and even co-authorship. Finally, exploring diverse perspectives and methodologies broadens understanding, fostering more nuanced and innovative approaches to research. 📌 Read more about his work here: https://lnkd.in/gc88m2DZ #BUV #Research - BUV Centre for Research and Innovation (CRI) 📧 Email: cri@buv.edu.vn 🌐 Website: https://www.buv.edu.vn/
