Electrifying the Production of Acids and Bases for Cleaner and Leaner Supply Chains

About us

Aepnus Technology is reinventing chemical manufacturing to eliminate waste and secure domestic supply chains. Our patented electrolyzer platform transforms sodium sulfate—a low-value byproduct generated across industries like batteries, pulp & paper, textiles, pigments, and oleochemicals—into high-purity sulfuric acid and caustic soda. By enabling on-site regeneration of these essential chemicals, we reduce disposal costs, lower reliance on imported reagents, and improve operational efficiency for manufacturers. Our system is built for scalability, offering a modular, low-CAPEX, and energy-efficient alternative to conventional chemical procurement. As we scale, we're expanding into other critical applications where our technology can help solve industrial waste challenges while strengthening the resilience of domestic chemical supply chains.

    Electrochemical Engineer at Aepnus Technology

I want to highlight a fantastic partnership with APROE that truly accelerated some of Aepnus Technology’s successes in 2023/24. APROE is an SF-based design/build engineering firm which augmented Aepnus’ mechanical engineering functions in our early stages. As a small company, having access to their expertise and capabilities has been invaluable. Our first project with APROE involved tackling significant issues with our first-generation pilot cells. We were plagued by leakage due to tolerance problems, material deformation, and high pressure drops. APROE's team of mechanical engineers quickly diagnosed the root causes and collaborated with us to develop a second-generation design. The improvements were remarkable: internal pressure drops decreased by approximately 5x, assembly became consistent with even compression, and most importantly, we achieved zero leaks. This redesign was crucial for reproducible experiments, enabling our successful 100+ hour pilot cell operation last summer, and paving the way for our soon-to-be-achieved 1000+ hour milestone. Building on this success, we engaged APROE to address similar challenges with our lab cells. Through a collaborative, iterative process spanning several months, APROE provided design and fabrication support, culminating in a simple yet elegant design that delivered both reproducible assembly and performance. Beyond these specific projects, APROE’s waterjet service has been essential for rapid prototyping and component replication. Their team is incredibly responsive and flexible, providing quick and reliable turnarounds. For any company looking to augment their engineering team or solve tough mechanical problems, especially in the SF Bay Area, APROE is a fantastic partner. Their in-house machine shop and extensive network of machinists and suppliers give them the versatility to handle a wide range of projects. They’ve been a true asset to Aepnus Technology.
