The UK commits to working with other countries to end human trafficking The UK hosts the Summit on Organised Immigration Crime (OIC) at the historic Lancaster House in London. It aims to bring countries and institutions together to collectively combat the criminal networks facilitating organised immigration crime and migrant smuggling. Ministers from over 40 countries and territories attended the Summit to commit to collaboratively tackling the organised criminal groups involved in organised immigration crime. Three main areas covered in the Summit in tackling Organised Immigration Crime were: undermining criminal supply chains, tackling criminal finances and disrupting the criminal use of the online environment. Viet Nam Minister of Public Security, General Luong Tam Quang attended the Summit and co-chaired with the UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper on one important session. Speaking at the Summit, Minister Luong Tam Quang said: “As a responsible member of the international community, Viet Nam wishes to continue learning from the experiences of other countries in preventing and combating transnational crimes, especially human trafficking, to jointly build a safe, peaceful, fair and prosperous world.”

“An international financial centre (IFC) will facilitate high-quality financial products and has a strong impact on the country and regional financial trends.” - said Iain Frew, British Ambassador to Viet Nam. Speaking at the “Developing International Financial Centre in Viet Nam” conference co-organised by Viet Nam Ministry of Finance and Ho Chi Minh City’s people committee, the Ambassador shared: “Since December 2022, the UK has funded a project to support the development of an IFC in Viet Nam. The project, implemented by TheCityUK, has provided a platform for public and private sector senior representatives from both countries to work closely together on tailored analysis and expertise-sharing and advise on which IFC model is best suited for Viet Nam. The UK stands ready to work with Viet Nam to develop a successful IFC through (1) developing an efficient and sophisticated legal and regulatory framework (2) attracting, training and retaining the right skills and talent; and 3) building modern and sustainable infrastructure to support the IFC. The UK is committed to supporting Viet Nam to achieve the country’s ambitions to become a high-income country by 2045 and reach net-zero emission by 2050.” #GreatFinance #IFC #UKVN
