“An international financial centre (IFC) will facilitate high-quality financial products and has a strong impact on the country and regional financial trends.” - said Iain Frew, British Ambassador to Viet Nam. Speaking at the “Developing International Financial Centre in Viet Nam” conference co-organised by Viet Nam Ministry of Finance and Ho Chi Minh City’s people committee, the Ambassador shared: “Since December 2022, the UK has funded a project to support the development of an IFC in Viet Nam. The project, implemented by TheCityUK, has provided a platform for public and private sector senior representatives from both countries to work closely together on tailored analysis and expertise-sharing and advise on which IFC model is best suited for Viet Nam. The UK stands ready to work with Viet Nam to develop a successful IFC through (1) developing an efficient and sophisticated legal and regulatory framework (2) attracting, training and retaining the right skills and talent; and 3) building modern and sustainable infrastructure to support the IFC.
