It was a pleasure to speak at the 3rd ESA Security Conference, in Poland – a valued Member State of ESA and my directorate, ESA’s Connectivity and Secure Communications.   The importance of space assets in our world, economy and everyday lives is ever-increasing, and space will be pivotal in ensuring a secure and resilient environment to foster growth and address challenges in these key areas.   ESA’s Strategy 2040 supports Europe’s ambitions in space with our programme proposal to the Ministerial in November. 🙌Together with ESA Technology, we're celebrating a successful 5th Workshop on Advanced Flexible Telecom Payloads! 🛰️🥳Today we conclude the 2025 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞, proudly delivered by our team and in collaboration with ESA Academy! This week, 30 brilliant Master’s and PhD students from engineering and science backgrounds have explored the critical role space-based telecommunication plays - and will continue to play - in our modern world. From satellite broadcasting and global internet access, to mobile convergency, optical communications and secure connectivity, telecommunications is a foundational pillar of innovation and societal advancement. Throughout the course, European Space Agency - ESA experts led participants through an intensive programme that combined lectures, practical exercises, and a hands-on group project where students designed a satellite communications mission tailored to real-world user needs.
