What a fantastic article in Architecture Today about Wick Park with architecture by Henley Halebrown. Naturally, we are big fans of the building having designed the interior which complements the architecture so well. Here at 74, we deep dive into analysing the site and architecture while thinking what the future may hold for the building or neighbourhood like Hackney Wick in this case. Forming our design response, we took inspiration from the geometries found in the zig-zag glazing within the nearby train station and the unique diamond shaped sky lights that flood the amenity spaces below with natural light. This influenced the whole space planning strategy with the circulation spine taking on a meandering zig-zag plan form. These geometries informed a design language that influenced bespoke joinery, floor and wall finishes, feature lighting and artwork. We assessed the external facade palette and how it responded to the colourful and gritty local context. We let this inform the interior palette with an overriding desire to create an environment that is vibrant, fresh and full of personality. We are proud to have been involved in a project that celebrates individuality where the interior truly reflects the building fabric and surrounding community. Congratulations to all involved.
