What a fantastic article in Architecture Today about Wick Park with architecture by Henley Halebrown. Naturally, we are big fans of the building having designed the interior which complements the architecture so well. Here at 74, we deep dive into analysing the site and architecture while thinking what the future may hold for the building or neighbourhood like Hackney Wick in this case.  Forming our design response, we took inspiration from the geometries found in the zig-zag glazing within the nearby train station and the unique diamond shaped sky lights that flood the amenity spaces below with natural light. This influenced the whole space planning strategy with the circulation spine taking on a meandering zig-zag plan form. These geometries informed a design language that influenced bespoke joinery, floor and wall finishes, feature lighting and artwork. We assessed the external facade palette and how it responded to the colourful and gritty local context. We let this inform the interior palette with an overriding desire to create an environment that is vibrant, fresh and full of personality. We are proud to have been involved in a project that celebrates individuality where the interior truly reflects the building fabric and surrounding community. Congratulations to all involved. First impressions count… The entrance lobby is the first space we experience upon arrival. There are many things to consider as we aim to leave a lasting impression from the very moment your guest steps through the door. Storytelling. How do you want your guest to feel? What is their journey through the space? These initial moments influence how your guests perceive your brand. Creating a strong concept that weaves site specific history, context and narrative into the overall design and finer details is crucial in delivering an engaging and cohesive space where lighting, thoughtful space planning, acoustics and scent all contribute to creating an enhanced sensory experience. Connection. A warm welcome by the concierge team sets the tone for the guests stay. In a world of rapidly evolving technology, human interaction and genuine emotion cannot be replicated or replaced and is extremely important in making your guests feel valued and appreciated for the duration of their stay. The concierge desk is a natural a focal point of the space and should be as functional and inclusive as it should be beautifully designed. Wow factor. Hotels provide the opportunity to completely escape the norm and indulge in the special moments. That 'wow' on arrival is key, whether this is achieved with an impressive double height space and an impressive feature lighting installation or through an intimate boutique space with a mysterious and warm ambiance inviting you in to relax. This captures your guests attention from the outset, leaving them wanting more...

We are thrilled that our Wick Park project has been recognised at the BETTER FUTURE Awards - World Design Awards 2025. The design concept for this class-leading student accommodation in the heart of Hackney Wick took inspiration both from the colourful architecture of the building and from the vibrant artists’ community in the surrounding area. The result: a playful and energetic yet highly functional space, providing the very best of luxury student living. #WorldDesignAwards2025 #BetterFutureAwards

Happy people, happy place… We all know how much happier we are when we have friends, but making new ones can be so challenging, especially when you are living away from home, your family and friends. Most people lead busy lives and with increasingly cellular living it can be difficult to make new friends and it is easy to become isolated. Our work at 74, centres on the idea of togetherness. We know that if people make friends with their neighbours that they are happier, they feel part of a community and they are more likely to stay for longer. The connection and bonds we make as people can positively root us into a place. — Home is where the heart is… We are all searching for that idyllic living experience that is close to our happiest memories of home. That vision is often one of family, sharing and helping each other. We all know that the heart of any house is the kitchen. At its most successful it is a place to come together, to eat and to share our day. The careful design of kitchen and dining spaces can bring so much to a development. These spaces can be a focal point, they can bring people together and they can provide opportunities for new friendships to be formed. — Heart & soul… We are specialists in the in-between spaces that weave life, soul, character into spaces to create places for people. This is the hard part of designing interiors i.e. how do you bring people together, create and foster a culture that benefits your staff and your clients through better internal communication, more collaboration and your team really valuing their environment. The quality of these connective spaces become the heart of the project. We design interiors for younger professionals to work, socialise, get away from it all, feel supported and be part of a community. #pbsa #studentliving #wellbeing

Looking back over the years across some of our award-winning projects for our valued client Grainger PLC The designs for these residential spaces were derived from extensive contextual research and a deep understanding of how to create long-lasting and meaningful homes for people. Our design process was led by the aspirations of our client, who continue to help shape the future of the living sector. Proud to have played our part. We enjoyed some brilliant panels and discussions at the Workspace Design Show London, here are three key takeaways as we look ahead to the future of workspace design: 🌟 Human-centred design is key to creating a meaningful environment that people want to go back to the office for. By listening to employee needs and using data to define a strategy, designers can create effective and inclusive spaces that encourage interaction and collaboration but also provide choice and flexibility for how people want to work rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. 🌟 The UK's workforce is rapidly growing and ageing. Organisations have a responsibility to provide inclusive working environments that support different needs across a multi-generational workforce. 🌟 How can we harness AI as a powerful tool to help optimise workspaces and challenge our way of thinking? Defining the desired outcome and knowing how to measure results and success are key to this process. We are interested to see how our workspaces continue to evolve going forwards... #WorkplaceDesign
