  • The whole of the VINCI Facilities Defence team are looking forward to working collaboratively with colleagues from Gavin Jones and The Nurture Group on our Future Defence Infrastructure Services (FDIS) contract. Gavin Noble Head of Operations (South) and Ground Maintenance Lead for VINCI Facilities Defence said: "After an extensive sourcing process and mobilisation period we are delighted to see Gavin Jones commence delivery of Grounds Maintenance and Tree Management services on the south-east UK Ministry of Defence built estate FDIS Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) contract." "This contract, for an initial four year period, will see a significant capital injection, modernising of plant and supporting a significant increase in automation through the roll-out of autonomous mowers and spider bank trimmers. Through the deployment of electric powered tools and vehicles, together we will reduce Co2 emissions by an amount equivalent to 20 industrial vehicles per annum. We are also very excited to be initiating a sustainability fund, supporting the re-wilding of land across the military built estate." "As we enter grass-cutting season across the substantial grounds operation, most importantly I would like to take a moment to thank all grounds maintenance operatives for their continued hard-work and dedication, which is important for operational needs and to enhance the lived experience of service personnel." #groundsmaintenance #collaboration #Livedexperience #sustaiability

  • Following on from our highly successful Wellbeing Ambassador Conference last week, we asked a few of our VINCI Facilities delegates what being Wellbeing Ambassador means to them. Many of our ambassadors were driven to take up the role because of personal experience and a passion for the care and welfare of others. Peer-based support is powerful. Ambassadors, who take on the role on a voluntary basis - above and beyond their day job, will often be able to talk about their own experiences of issues including mental health - and what made a difference for them.   Kerry Vine FInstAM, Executive Personal Assistant said: “I am able to use my personal experience of mental ill health to ensure that both myself and my colleagues are empowered to understand the benefits of wellbeing – knowledge is everything.”   Having an ambassador network helps to ‘normalise’ talking about mental health; it can help to remove some of the stigma and encourage people to open up and seek help if they are struggling.   Nicky Kings, Quality and Performance Manager continued: “For me, offering support to my colleagues is so important. Wellbeing Ambassadors are people who can be trusted - they are a safe space. Many people may live alone, be carers or have things going on at home that could impact them at work - just talking helps and I want everyone to feel that they can speak up.”   Ambassador networks also help to create a sense of belonging. VINCI Facilities operates over numerous different sites so our teams vary in location and size. Parminder Heera, Regional Office Manager said: “Connecting the remote projects to the wider business is an important part of my role. Everyone should feel part of the same team and be provided with the same support.   ‘Just being there’ for others is incredibly impactful for team morale. “I really enjoy playing a positive part in improving the atmosphere in our workplace.” Nina Kaur, Digital Analyst said. “It’s lovely to get a sense of satisfaction when you’ve helped someone. I like a chat and a cup of coffee and sometimes that’s all people need – an impartial person who can help with concerns or questions.”   Our people will always be at the heart of everything we do, they are our most important asset.   We can all be there for each other, what will you do today to make a difference? #wellbeing #wellbeingmatters #wecare #peoplefirst #facilitiesmanagement #facman #wellbeingambassador #mentalhealth #healthiswealth

  • This week company Chief Executive Scott Wardrop and David Campbell (Health, Safety and Environment Director), took a tour of RAF Halton, one of the eighty military sites managed by the VINCI Facilities Defence team. The visit included meeting the VINCI Facilities Defence Site Team, led by Service Delivery Area Manager (SDAM) Nick Cornwell. Nick outlined the key challenges the site team faces in maintaining the site on behalf of our client Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and the Royal Air Force (RAF), our military customer. The tour of the site also included a visit to a large-scale maintenance project managed by our colleagues from VINCI Facilities Building Solutions. This £4.3 million, 92-week programme involves repairing the timber sash windows in eleven three-story Grade II listed accommodation blocks.    The Building Solutions team is more than halfway through the contract which is due to complete by December 2025, ahead of schedule. As it completes, this project will substantially improve the lived experience for those new recruits. #livedexperience #collaboration #teamwork #facilitiesmamangent #RoyalAirForce #rafhalton #facman

  • The VINCI Facilities Wellbeing Conference has just kicked off with a roomful of Wellbeing Ambassadors ready share, learn and help to evolve our comprehensive Wellbeing programme . Our Ambassadors support, lead and implement wellness initiatives and health promotion in, and outside of the workplace. They are also a visible support - a person our employees can approach for help or advice if they are struggling in anyway. Managing Director Paul Cottam BEng(Hons), CEng, MCIBSE, MEI opened the conference by providing an overview of our People | Wellbeing Strategic Ambition and reinforced that the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone who works at VINCI Facilities is, and will always remain, a priority – our people are at the heart of everything we do. Paul is Trustee of Mates in Mind, a leading UK charity raising awareness and addressing the stigma of poor mental health. He also shared an emotive video which highlighted the importance of ensuring the workplace is a safe space for people to speak up if they are struggling. Laughing Yoga, with Joyful Living, a presentation from Grant Payne, Wellbeing People Ltd and an art class to mark National Scribble Day rounded off the morning session. Natalie Edwards-White, Social Sustainability and Wellbeing Manager organised the event, she said: "Days like these are an integral part of our Wellbeing strategy. All of our ambassadors are passionate about looking after our people, about providing a safe space for everyone to be their true self at work, in the knowledge that they will be supported and encouraged every step of the way." #peoplefirst #wellbeing #healthsafetywellbeing #youmatter #wecare #wellbeingambassadors #construction #mentalhealth

  •   VINCI Facilities Managing Director, Paul Cottam BEng(Hons), CEng, MCIBSE, MEI, met with industry peers and the Labour Defence Growth Champion, Will Stone MP, to discuss industry’s key enabling role in the future defence enterprise in a rapidly changing operating environment. Paul shared the critical, but often under played, role that effective infrastructure plays in creating optimal conditions for Armed Forces performance; a role that VINCI Construction has been proud to support for over 70 years.   At this critical juncture, much can be done to realise defence estate modernisation through a forward-thinking ‘always-on’ ecosystem approach for infrastructure development. Striving to unite trusted pools of skilled workers and specialist firms under stable investment frameworks and innovative procurement mechanisms, will ensure they can act in agile ways based on changing needs. We look forward to continuing to contribute to these important discussions based on our lived experience in supporting multi-domain operations. #vincifacilities #vincidefence #future #defenceinfrastructure #armedforces #livedexperience

  • Starting this week and continuing over the next two weeks, VINCI Facilities' Head of Business Responsibility Melanie Richardson and Environment Manager Gary Stopford will host an insightful series of Sustainability Roadshows for our colleagues working on our Defence contracts. As a business, we are committed to playing an active role in ensuring our contracts and operations are conducted in the most environmentally sustainable way. By engaging and collaborating with our clients and supply chain partners, we aim to make a significant impact. The roadshow's agenda covers a wide range of topics, including the sources of carbon emissions, their impact on climate change, and practical steps we can all take to reduce our carbon footprint both as a business and individually. Adding social value is also incredibly important to us as an organisation. Understanding the impact we can have on the communities in which our teams operate is also covered during each briefing. #sustainability #climate #socialvalue #facman #collaboration #learning #understanding

To round off the week of spotlight features in celebration of #internationalwomensday, Lee Scragg, Defence Operations Director, reflected on two inspirational women who have impacted his life. He also talks about recognising the work/home juggle, parents, particularly women, face and captures his future hopes for his daughter.   “Earlier this week, I was surprised that I got a mention in a post (https://lnkd.in/eTmU-iX9) about one of my team members – Tracy Breen. In it, she highlighted an email I sent a while ago in which I thanked her for her commitment. I suppose I was surprised because I didn’t realise the impact a simple email could have. But on reflection, I get it. The sentiment was one of equality, I was saying – with the knowledge that being a female in the construction industry can be challenging – that I regarded her work, and that of other women in the team, incredibly highly. I was recognising them for their outstanding skills and talent, alongside the men that they work with.   “We must foster a culture where we are all ‘seen’ for our ability, for what we bring to the day-to-day, the values in which we live by – and not be judged or treated differently because of our gender. Historically construction has been a male dominated industry but I think (and hope) that things are changing.    “When I look back to people in my life who have had an incredibly positive influence on me through my formative years, and still do today, I think of two women amongst lots of others. A primary school teacher and my Auntie. My teacher got the best out of me. I have dyslexia and her support and encouragement was incredible - her early intervention helped plot my path. My Auntie has a successful career in the medical field, with an unwavering commitment to lifelong learning. She juggles being a fantastic mother throughout, and chooses community work, over other opportunities. "Why wouldn’t I champion the rights of women, when two amazing women championed mine!   “All parents, regardless of gender, have to try organise family and work life. But I do see the struggle more in my female colleagues and my own family. The mum/career balance is complex and I never underestimate it’s toil. "I hope, that when my daughter is in the working world, we will have evolved further and that discrimination becomes a thing of the past. It’s a lot to ask for, but we need to be the ones setting the standards for tomorrow’s workforce.” #ally #equality #inspiration #womensday #iwd #womeninbusiness #womeninconstruction #dstrongertogether #future #futureworkforce #settingthestandard

“My advice to young women in the construction industry? Ask the questions. Have faith in the people around you to let you speak....and be heard.” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To mark #InternationalWomensDay, as we continue our celebration of women in the VINCI Facilities workforce, we spoke to Laura Quinn, Commercial Apprentice. Laura joined VINCI Facilities in July 2023 as an administrator for our Mobile Response Team. She is now completing a Quantity Surveying Degree Apprenticeship over five years, looking to achieve chartered status with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. “I joined VINCI Facilities during a gap year, during which I felt a bit lost regarding where I wanted to go. I found out about the Apprenticeship, applied, and was successful. I am now working towards my degree through one day a week study leave. "Managing my time was a juggle at first, but I have settled in, and I am finding it very interesting as it’s not like anything I have done before. I am currently on a placement in our Education team but will move around the business to get the breadth of experience I need. “I am really enjoying it. My team have been incredibly supportive, particularly my mentor Emma Hulme, who is an inspiration to women across VINCI Facilities. It’s so easy to get imposter syndrome, especially as a young woman in a male dominated work field. I turned up on site for the first time in my PPE and thought… what an earth am I doing here? But so many people have made me feel as though I belong here, and I really do. “In ten years’ time I want to be in a senior management role, on a team with more women around the table. Things are changing for women, they really are – but we must maintain this move towards equality. I want to play a pivotal role in investing in young talent - because people invested, and believed, in me. “My advice to young women in the construction industry? Ask the questions, don’t sit and worry about a question you are not asking. Ask it, and have faith in the people around you to let you speak....and be heard.” #internationalwomensday #youngcareers #askthequestions #equality #youngtalent #investinginthefuture #womeninconstruction #thisgirlcan #IWD2024 #WomenInSTEM
