Our third People and Place case study film is about a folding bike hire initiative in East Lothian. 🚲 Our People and Place grant funded East Lothian Council to run this project. The initiative is designed to allow people to try a bike before buying their own. After 2 years of campaigning, the big day is finally here! Starting from today, 1 April 2025, Minister for Equalities Kaukab Stewart is launching a new pilot scheme to provide free rail travel for companions of blind and partially sighted people. Holders of an eye +1 National Entitlement Card (NEC) will be able to travel with a companion at no extra cost on all ScotRail journeys across Scotland. This long-awaited initiative was marked by a launch event at Anniesland Station in Glasgow, where our Chief Executive, Craig Spalding, joined the Minister alongside campaigners and representatives from Sight Scotland and Sight Scotland Veterans. The pilot, running for one year, aligns companion rail travel with existing concessionary bus and ferry policies, making Scotland's public transport network more inclusive and accessible. We've published new guidance for the design of town centres and busy street environments. It's intended to ensure that all members of Scotland's communities can access these areas safely and confidently.
