Do you know someone who could benefit from assistance to make travelling on public transport a little bit easier? The Thistle Assistance card can help people feel safer and more comfortable using public transport, particularly when travelling alone. The card can be personalised to show what kind of assistance is needed and is a discreet way to ask transport staff for support with a journey. Thistle Assistance is recognised by a wide range of public transport providers across Scotland, from buses, trams and trains to planes and ferries. 👉 Find out more, order a Thistle Assistance card or download the app: https://lnkd.in/eemR7Xnk #ThistleAssistance #PublicTransport #Accessibility #Mobility #SEStran #Transport HITRANS Nestrans Tactran Strathclyde Partnership for Transport Transport Scotland

The Regional Transport Partnership for the South East of Scotland
About us
SEStran is a Regional Transport Partnership consisting of eight local authorities in South East Scotland, namely Borders, East Lothian, West Lothian, Midlothian, Edinburgh, Fife, Falkirk, and Clackmannanshire. The primary objective of SEStran is to establish a transportation system in South East Scotland that facilitates effective business operations and enhances accessibility to healthcare, education, public services, and employment opportunities for all residents in the region. South East Scotland is expected to witness a 10% population increase by 2024, leading to a surge in transportation demand and the potential for heightened traffic congestion and pollution. SEStran is addressing this challenge by: Improving and extending public transportation services to foster broad acceptance. Advocating for smart travel options, such as cycling and walking. Reducing the number of solo commuter car trips and overall reliance on cars. Alleviating greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants. Implementation Strategy: SEStran's core initiative for the next 15 years is the Regional Transport Strategy, which encompasses four key objectives: 1. Economy: Ensuring that transport facilities promote sustainable growth, regional prosperity, and vitality. 2. Accessibility: Improving accessibility for individuals with limited transport options, especially those in rural areas. 3. Environment: Ensuring environmentally sustainable development. 4. Safety & Health: Promoting a healthier and more active population in the SEStran area.

Our third People and Place case study film is about a folding bike hire initiative in East Lothian. 🚲 Our People and Place grant funded East Lothian Council to run this project. The initiative is designed to allow people to try a bike before buying their own. The folding bikes can be hired for just £5 a day and can be collected and returned to libraries in several East Lothian towns. 👉 Find out more about our People and Place work: https://lnkd.in/eBYxiZ69 #PeopleAndPlace #Cycling #ACtiveTravel #BikeHire #Bikes #FoldingBikes Transport Scotland Brompton Bicycle

It was lovely to visit one of our People and Place funded projects - West Lothian Bike Library – last week and hear about all the great work they're doing to help people get out on bikes. 🚲 West Lothian Bike Library is a not for profit, community interest company. They help people to get active and connected through cycling and associated activity. They aim to tackle inequalities in health by making cycling an activity for all, regardless of background, income or ability. We got to try out some of their e-bikes, as well as hear about their work with businesses in the south-east of Scotland, their adaptive cycles and their children’s cycling skills classes. So much great work to help people travel actively! 🙌 #PeopleAndPlace #ActiveTravel #Wheeling #Cycling Transport Scotland

Our second People and Place 2024/25 case study film is about the Walk It programme in the Scottish Borders. Our People and Place grant funded this project via Scottish Borders Council. The Walk It programme provides both indoor and outdoor walking sessions. The indoor sessions are designed to help people build their confidence and fitness, which will then help and enable them to choose walking in their day to day life instead of using the car. We've made a series of case study films about the impact of our 2024/25 People and Place work. This work is made possible thanks to funding from Transport Scotland. This first film is about Thistle Outdoors, who provide adaptive bike sessions for people with long term health issues and disabilities in Edinburgh. We provide a People and Place grant to Thistle Outdoors via The City of Edinburgh Council. #PeopleAndPlace #ActiveTravel #Walking #Wheeling #Cycling #SustainableTravel Thistle Foundation

We had a great time at the Team Modeshift STARS Summit in London yesterday. We really enjoyed hearing about a range of work, including Ellen C.'s talk about how the Department for Transport are developing an integrated national transport strategy and Andrew Bradley's talk on lessons from the NHS’s first modal shift network. Lots of interesting insights and learnings about sustainable and active travel across the UK which we will take back to our work. And we got to see London in the sun - so lovely! ☀️ #STARSSummit #ActiveTravel #SustainableTravel #SEStran Rachael Murphy Sandra Lavergne
