This past weekend I had the privilege of attending the Total Sports Investments Group Summit in Cyprus as a representative of Short Circuit Science (FORTY9), hosted by PAFOS FC Owner and Chairman, Roman Dubov 🇨🇾 The event brought together a diverse group of professionals from the football industry including Clubs, Brands, Advisors, Sports Lawyers and Agents. Attendees had the opportunity to hear from industry experts on key trends shaping the future of football. Some of my key takeaways below: 1. Data is King 📊 Victor Orta provided a valuable insight into how Sevilla FC, one of Europe’s most forward-thinking clubs, is leveraging data to realise a competitive edge. He showcased the club’s internal platform, demonstrating how it enhances player recruitment and talent identification. Marcos Motta reinforced this sentiment, explaining how player agencies are also investing heavily in data to uncover young players and strengthen their client rosters. 2. Saudi is Here to Stay 🇸🇦 After making a high-profile entrance onto the global football stage, the Saudi Pro League (SPL) is now shifting its focus toward sustainability and long-term growth. Ghalib Walid Kutbi and Manoel Flores Jr. discussed key objectives, including: ✅ Recruiting younger foreign players ✅ Developing homegrown talent ahead of the 2030 World Cup ✅ Raising the profile of women’s football in Saudi Arabia 3. Michel Salgado couldn’t do it on a cold Tuesday Night in Stoke! ❌ At Friday night’s gala dinner, we had the pleasure of hearing from footballing icon Michel Salgado. He reflected on his illustrious career, from the Galácticos era at Real Madrid to life under Big Sam at Blackburn Rovers.
