SNIPEF’s Low Carbon Forum met yesterday (16 April), welcoming representatives from the Scottish Government to discuss ways to improve installer/contractor relationships with the Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan Scheme. The Scottish Government team outlined a number of ways in which the scheme is being streamlined for both consumers and installers, while also taking on board comments from forum members about further improvements. The forum also learned about progress on the Nesta/SNIPEF Start at Home project, which we hope to announce at the InstallerSHOW in June, and heard from SeaWarm about its unique HotTwist technology which is engineered to maximise heat extraction from the sea water. SeaWarm is also offering members exclusive access to tour its site in South Queensferry with SNIPEF’s Technical team on 30 April and 1 May. Those interested can register here. 👇 https://lnkd.in/eQ8uiSVF

About us
SNIPEF is the Scottish & Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers’ Federation. We are the principal trade association representing the interests of plumbing and heating businesses based in Scotland and Northern Ireland. SNIPEF operates the Plumbing Industry Licensing Scheme, manages the modern apprenticeship scheme for plumbing in Scotland and delivers training in a range of areas. We aim to ensure the highest standards across the plumbing and heating industry in Scotland and Northern Ireland and to assist our members in employing qualified, professional and highly skilled staff. SNIPEF currently has 750 member firms that employ over 3500 plumbers and in addition SNIPEF facilitates the training of 700 plumbing apprentices. The Plumbing Industry Licensing Scheme (PILS) sets out strict quality guidelines for licensed businesses and the scheme’s Customer Charter has a commitment to “Deliver higher standards and improve customer care” as a guiding principle. All SNIPEF Licensed plumbing businesses must employ only properly qualified plumbers and hold suitable insurances and all firms are also subject to regular auditing and inspection of their work. As well as laying down requirements for plumbing businesses the PILS operates an independent complaints procedure and warranty scheme if a customer is unhappy with the work carried out by a SNIPEF member. Established in 1923, SNIPEF has a key role to play in keeping members ahead of the competition and apace of change. Our high standards of professional advice and service are designed to help plumbing businesses improve and develop their business performance. We continue to meet our members' needs by offering a wide range of relevant and practical services.

Our Chief Executive Fiona Hodgson sat down with The Scottish Sun last week to discuss ongoing concerns with the proposed revision to the Heat in Buildings Bill. Fiona spoke about how the revised bill must commit to investment in skills and workforce to be workable, as the vast majority of heat pump installations are expected to be completed by SME’s. While additional pressures such as the rise in National Minimum Wage, National Insurance contributions and rising apprentice wages are all having an effect on Scotland’s plumbing and heating profession. She said: “These pressures are real, and without targeted intervention, they risk choking off the very workforce we need to deliver change.” Read the full article here👇 https://lnkd.in/egKJK6gj

It has been another successful day for the SNIPEF team at BEPEX Trade Shows! Scott Sanford, SNIPEF’s Technical Services and Skills Manager, took to the stage to offer his technical knowledge to Northern Ireland's plumbing and heating professionals as part of the event’s Trade Talks 🗣️ The Trade Talks brought together a number of industry experts, offering advice, information and insight into a range of topics across the sector 🔧 In his talk, Scott discussed modern central heating design, highlighting how system design is evolving to improve energy efficiency and create increased comfort in the home 🏡 Speaking afterward, he said: “It has been fantastic to be at this year’s BEPEX event in Northern Ireland. “This was our first time attending, and it allowed us to speak with both existing and potential new members - discussing all things plumbing and heating while also explaining the benefits of SNIPEF membership. “My speaker sessions allowed me to demonstrate the improvements plumbing and heating engineers can make to their heating installations to decrease energy usage, costs and emissions. "The event was also valuable to get feedback from both our members and non-members, gaining an insight into the topics most important to them in Northern Ireland."

My 1st podcast in the bag! It’s not something I ever expected to be doing, but when Nathan Gambling asked me to come on the show, I couldn’t refuse. I’ve been listening to the show for a few years and really value the work Nathan does for our industry, so hopefully this helps others too. In the podcast I share my journey through the industry from gas service & repair engineer to my current role and fitting a heat pump in my own home. We also discuss the value of being with a trade association like ours, SNIPEF, the benefits of mentorship, the Home Energy Scotland grants and loans, good system design, linking in with our partnership with Warmur Academy and how doing something similar can help plumbing and heating businesses to grow. Special shout out to 🔧Ian Chapman 👍🏻❤️🙏🏻 for the great work he does supporting SNIPEF and someone who I didn’t mention on the podcast but was a big help, Laurence Allison from Viessmann, thank you! I also need to give a big shout out to Barry Sharp of Renewable Heat Installations and Servicing, without him the heat pump installation wouldn’t have happened. You can listen to the podcast via either of the two links below. I hope you enjoy it and feel free to reach out and link in with me and/or SNIPEF. https://lnkd.in/etwNQwJV Or https://lnkd.in/eTipZeMS
