Life. At Severn Trent. Our people are what makes us and caring for our wonderful water is at the heart of what we do.

About us

Water is wonderful. Without it we’d be lost. With it, everything’s possible. For every toothbrush, for every loo flushed. For the hot showers, the cool drinks, the cups of tea. But it’s not just at the heart of our homes. It’s at the heart of everything; our schools, our businesses, our hospitals. Saving lives, helping communities thrive. We’re Severn Trent, a diverse and amazing group of people who want to keep it that way. We bring you clean water and we take it away safely too. But it’s not just what we do. It’s how we do it: not just talking, but going over and above. Stepping up and rolling our sleeves up. It’s because we care. Not only about our water but our corner of the country. And we care for our amazing people who make all this possible. Don’t just take our word for it; we’re a Glassdoor Top 50 Company – one of the best employers in the UK right now. At Severn Trent, we do more, because we care.

  • This week we're spotlighting some of our river health investment in Nottinghamshire 🌊. Buried under the car park of a leisure centre in Carlton, east of Nottingham, is the latest innovation to tackle overflow spills into rivers. We’ve installed a massive underground storage tank to take the strain when there’s heavy rainfall, reducing the pressure on the local sewage network and cutting spills into the nearby Ouse Dyke. The Dyke, which leads into the River Trent, is an important site for wildlife, attracting herons and kingfishers. The new tank will hold more than 500,000 litres of rainwater – about 3,100 bathtubs worth – during heavy rain. That means local sewers are far less likely to flood and spill through overflows into the Dyke. It’s part of a £4 million project to improve the health of local waterways. There’s more to do – but we’re committed to going further and faster to improve our rivers. Our ambitious plans mean we’re spending a further £2billion over the next five years to improve river health, and we’re fast tracking the delivery of an additional 600 solutions, by autumn 2025. 💧 Learn more about how we're investing into your rivers and reducing spills across our region: https://lnkd.in/e_KUaAa2 #GetRiverPositive #RiverHealth

  • This week we're spotlighting some of our river health investment in Warwickshire 🌊. On the Warwickshire-West Midlands border is our Bassets Pole treatment plant in Sutton Coldfield, which is close to Collets Brook. This flows into Langley Brook, an ecologically important waterway with the opportunity to be able to support a wide variety of habitats for fish species. It’s important to reduce our impact, so we’re using innovative solutions here to reduce spills and improve local river health. Last year we introduced auxiliary storm tanks here, alongside a new combined reed bed system. Storm tanks give us extra capacity, allowing us to hold more wastewater instead of seeing it spill into waterways. The new tanks at Bassetts Pole add another 38,000 litres of storage. Reed beds act as nature’s filtration system, polishing treated water to remove any remaining pollutants before it flows into local rivers. There’s more to do – but we’re committed to going further and faster to improve our rivers. Our ambitious plans mean we’re spending a further £2billion over the next five years to improve river health, and we’re fast tracking the delivery of an additional 600 solutions, by autumn 2025. 💧 Learn more about how we're investing into your rivers and reducing spills across our region: https://lnkd.in/e_KUaAa2 #riverhealth #getriverpositive #investment #reducingspills

  • We were awarded £10,000,000 as part of the OFWAT innovation fund for our Net Zero Hub at our Strongford wastewater plant 🙌, and a large portion of this has gone towards working with in collaboration with Suez. Together, we are developing the ActiLayer technology, and have now taken this from a pilot scale trial to deal with the greenhouse gas of nitrous oxide to a fully scaled implantation - a world's first! #NetZero

  • Over half a million kids in the Midlands have explored the Wonderful World of Water sessions with our Education Team over the past five years 🌊. Since 2020, 559,777 children have enjoyed fun and interactive sessions, learning about saving water and flushing only the three P’s: paper, poo, and pee. 🧻💧 Maxine, our Senior Education Officer, said, "Teaching nearly half a million children has been such a privilege, and we’d like to thank the parents, the pupils and, of course, the amazing teachers. Our free workshops and assemblies are always a huge amount of fun, as well as being very informative and a fantastic way for children to get involved and learn more. As a team, we have had a fantastic five years and managed to get out and about to so many schools and speak to so many children." From April, the Education Team will be combining its work in schools with getting into the community and speaking to customers directly about our operations work and treatment processes. Please reach out to us if you know a school or community group that would be interested in a visit from the Education Team, and find out more about what they do here: http://ms.spr.ly/6044qqjIw

  • The Flourish and Nourish Community Garden were our Shropshire NeighbourGood winners. They received two days of support from thirty Severn Trent volunteers, and £2,500 towards their community kitchen garden and memorial orchard project. 🌱🌸 The community voted them Shropshire winners, and our volunteers helped kick off Phase 1: fencing, groundwork, and orchard planting. This project aims to support mental health and well-being through nature and community activities. 💚 Katja Jones, Volunteer Coordinator, said, "We really appreciated the support from Severn Trent to really kickstart the build of our community garden. I was so impressed with a great team of people who came to support us, some from long distances. I was particularly struck by their energy and enthusiasm, not just for helping us but also in their working roles for Severn Trent." • Our River Rangers play an important role in helping to keep the rivers in our region healthy. They monitor conditions, carry out inspections, manage issues, and work closely with communities to protect the habitats of local wildlife. A typical day for a River Ranger begins monitoring the rain forecast, as heavy rain can cause the river levels to rise rapidly. Once this is completed the Rangers carry out a list of inspections throughout the day to ensure everything is running smoothly. Look out for our River Rangers out and about at various sites across our region. Since their launchin 2022, the River Rangers reached 10,000 visits to rivers and waterways across the region, and have now met more than 2,500 customers and held 710 meetings with community groups. • 18 months ago, we embarked on a mission to help transform the lives of 100,000 people in the Midlands by tackling poverty at its roots. Recognising the power of collaboration, and our role to do more as a water company that is plumbed into our region, we're partnering with loads of brilliant local organisations to create pathways into work and inspiring the next generation. Over the last year alone, some of what we’ve done includes: 🔹 Engaged with over 11,000 people through schools employability, work experience, job fairs, partnerships, and pathways to work 🔹 Welcomed 30 long-term unemployed individuals into our business through targeted training and support. 🔹 Formed an alliance to open doors for 100 care leavers this summer following our own successful trial. 🔹 Hosted 5 ‘Big Boost’ jobs fairs across our region with free skills and training – welcoming over 900 people each time. 🔹 Delivered mock interview sessions to over 12,000 young people. 🔹 Continued with our mentoring programme supporting young prison leavers to help develop employability skills and confidence. We believe the Midlands is full of untapped pools of talent, so we’re looking forward to bringing our work to this year's Anthropy UK to share with others what we’re doing. We want to work with other groups and businesses to help even more people, and learn from one another. If you’re heading to #Anthropy25 and want to join in the conversation, book your space on our slot on Wednesday at 2.30pm: https://lnkd.in/eNh3xBKj #Anthropy #RebootBritain #Anthropy25
