Seabound achieves another milestone!
Today, Seabound and STAX Engineering co-hosted a Carbon Capture Showcase in the Port of Long Beach to demonstrate our integrated zero emissions solution for vessels at berth.
We boarded a catamaran together with 60+ industry leaders, regulators, and investors, setting sail on an immersive journey through the port, which culminated in a live demonstration of our carbon capture system at work.
Together, we witnessed the integrated solution in action, servicing a Wallenius Wilhelmsen roll-on roll-off (RoRo) vessel.
First, the STAX system connected to the ship’s exhaust pipes to channel the exhaust gas through a purification system. The harmful criteria pollutants including NOx, PM, DPM, and ROG, were removed before the exhaust gas passed through the Seabound Demonstration Unit. Then, using our lime-based technology, we trapped the CO2 emissions and transformed them into limestone. As guests witnessed live on our measurement dashboard, we achieved a 94% CO₂ capture rate, successfully demonstrating the world’s first CO2 capture system in port.
This milestone arrives at a critical time. Just last week, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) agreed to a first-ever global carbon price that could force ships to cut their carbon intensity by 65% by 2040, underscoring the urgency for scalable decarbonization solutions.
