We help vets to save lives by providing a blood service for pets.
About us
We support vets by providing a blood service for pets, just like the one we have as humans. We run donation sessions across the country where owners bring their much loved companions to give blood. The blood is taken to our processing centre in Loughborough where it is separated into different products. It is then stored and sent out to vets when they need it. We operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to ensure blood is always available.

Meet Norman and Molly 🐶 Norman’s journey as a blood donor began with a very special dog, Molly, a beloved rescue Staffie who inspired his owner Lynn to give back and help save the lives of other dogs 🥰 Adopted at six months old, Molly was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2019. Her prognosis was 12 to 18 months with treatment. However, thanks to the expertise of the excellent oncology team, Molly defied the odds and lived for five more wonderful years before passing away. Towards the end of her life, her platelet levels dropped dangerously low, and while she never needed a transfusion, it was something her family had to consider. The thought occurred: if we were prepared to accept a transfusion for Molly, shouldn’t we also consider giving one back? That’s when Norman’s journey began. Norman, the family’s other dog, is a happy and healthy boy with a lovely laid-back nature. Now, he’s two donations in and very much at the beginning of what his family hopes will be a long and impactful donor journey 🙏 Norman’s family are so proud of him for helping to save lives. Through these donations, Molly’s legacy lives on and will make a lasting difference for other dogs in need ❤️

Meet Scooby, a brave 5 year old Cocker Spaniel who needed several blood transfusions to help save his life 🩸🐶 It all started when his owner noticed that Scooby wasn’t his usual energetic spaniel self. He was struggling up hills, and his breathing seemed a little off. A trip to the vet revealed that his red blood cell count was low, but not critical. However, the next day, Scooby became extremely lethargic, prompting an urgent referral to Langford Small Animal Hospital where he was immediately admitted to intensive care 🚑 Blood tests confirmed Immune Mediated Haemolytic Anaemia, which meant that Scooby’s immune system was attacking its own red blood cells. A lifesaving blood transfusion was urgently needed 😢 Scooby spent ten days in ICU and needed four separate blood transfusions 🐕💉 After two weeks, he was stable enough to go home. His recovery was slow and careful, and long walks were put on hold to protect him from infections. But just four and a half weeks later, Scooby was back to his usual self, racing around the house and garden, full of life. Regular blood tests continue to monitor his condition, and Scooby remains on medication. Dogs like Scooby rely on blood being available in these life-threatening situations, and we aim to ensure this is always the case 🙏

Meet Hollie, a brave 11 year old lady who faced a life threatening situation due to a suspected medication-induced gastrointestinal bleed 😢 After a sudden decline, Hollie received a lifesaving blood transfusion at Vets Now hospital in Manchester. Her condition was critical, but the transfusion, combined with veterinary care, allowed her to recover and return home 🩸 'There's no doubt that without the blood transfusion, Hollie wouldn't be here today', her owner Claire shared. 'I'm incredibly grateful to all the dogs and their owners who selflessly donate.' Hollie is now happy and healthy again, playing and going on walks with her sister Bella. Her family is cherishing the extra time they have with her, time they wouldn't have had without the generosity of donor dogs 🥰 Dogs like Hollie rely on blood being available in these life-threatening situations and we aim to ensure this is always the case. However, many more dogs are needed to come forward and give blood to meet this aim 🙏 If your dog is fit and healthy, between 1 and 8 years old, weighs over 25kg, and is confident, they could become a blood donor and help to save lives 🩸🐶
