Did you know that no new Long Duration Electricity Storage (LDES) has been built in Great Britain for almost 40 years? These ‘super batteries’ are crucial for making our #energy system more resilient by storing #electricity and releasing it when needed. They also help reduce costs for consumers by lowering their #bills. Today, #Ofgem has launched the first-ever LDES Cap and Floor scheme, providing much-needed certainty for investors. 🔍 Analysis shows that LDES could save £24 billion in electricity system costs from 2030 to 2050. 📅 Applications close on Monday, 9 June. Yesterday, our Chair Mark McAllister visited both the Waltham Cross and Brimsdown infrastructure projects, hosted by National Grid. This visit highlighted the Hackney Waltham Uprating Project (HWUP). HWUP, an ASTI project approved by Ofgem, aims to enhance the country’s energy infrastructure by 2027-2028, supporting increased clean energy generation. Ofgem will continue to work with National Grid, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, and other partners as these projects progress to ensure that value for money and quality of work is delivered throughout 🤝 #Ofgem #NationalGrid #Energy #Infrastructure #CleanEnergy

🏪 New measures have come into effect effect that will provide #businesses with better support on #energy issues, helping them to become more #EnergyAware. These include: 🟠 Energy brokers/third-party intermediaries working on small business contracts need to be signed up to a qualifying dispute settlement scheme (QDSS) 🟠 Suppliers need to signpost small business customers to Citizens Advice for enhanced guidance in managing their energy provisions 📽️ Watch for more on how we are protecting non-domestic customers 👇

Following a public consultation, Ofgem has confirmed the activities we should undertake as Regional Energy Strategic Planner (RESP) for Great Britain. As the RESP, we’ll join up national and local energy plans across Scotland, Wales and nine regions in England to ensure local communities can help plan the energy infrastructure needed to enable their plans for economic growth and net zero. We’ll adopt a whole system approach by working across all energy vectors, including electricity, gas, heat and transport, to drive local energy network investment and deliver secure, affordable, clean energy for consumers, homes and businesses across Great Britain. 🌆 By the end of 2027, energy plans will be in place for every city, town, and village across Great Britain. Ofgem has given the green light for the plans to be drawn up for Scotland, Wales and nine regions in England by the independent National Energy System Operator (NESO). 🌍 These Regional Energy Strategic Plans (RESPs) will outline steps to secure energy supply, meet rising electricity demand, and pave a cost-effective path to net zero. They will coordinate local energy expansion, clean power generation, and infrastructure for decarbonising heating, transport, industrial clusters, and hydrogen plants. This integrated approach to national and regional energy planning aims to ensure sufficient network capacity to support decarbonisation and new economic activities like data centres. 🔗 https://ow.ly/jHeV50VsVp7 #EnergyFuture #NetZero #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #GreatBritain
