💙 @Ariam Enraght-Moony, Chief People Officer at TSB, talking to HR Grapevine about the bank's partnership with KareHero 💙 "If, for any moment in time, you have caring responsibilities for an adult in your life, you know you have access to all manner of support including funding, support in putting in place a power of attorney, or guidance with navigating the adult care system and finding resources to support your loved one." Mind the (gender pay) gap 💰 On Saturday (5 April), UK employers with 250+ employees will report their gender pay gap data. While the numbers for 2024 show progress, the reality is stark: at this rate, many women in their 40s and 50s won’t see pay equity in their working lifetime. 📉 2024 median gender pay gap: 9.03% For every £1 a typical male employee earns, a female employee earns 91p. The conversation often centres on childcare, but the data suggests another issue: adult caregiving. More women in senior roles don’t have children – but they do have caregiving responsibilities, disproportionately impacting their careers. If businesses don’t address this, true gender pay equity will remain out of reach. 🔗 Read our latest newsletter for more insights.

Who’s caring for the caregivers? The deaths of actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa have shown just how lonely and isolating it can be to care for someone with dementia. This Forbes article highlights that it can be hard for family caregivers to ask for outside help, but that means there’s no one to spot the signs if a carer is struggling to cope, or to step in should they become ill themselves. Anything can happen, even to a caregiver, and a person with dementia cannot be left alone. 🫂 The rise in dementia cases shows no sign of slowing down. We need more policies and initiatives to ensure caregivers get the support they need. https://lnkd.in/eFv3Tz5Z

Shrinking birth rate + ageing population + centralised healthcare system = more invisible carers juggling work and care. Carers need practical support so they can stay in their jobs. That's the message to Government from our CEO and founder Stephanie Leung
CEO @ KareHero, FTSE100 NED, Venture Partner @LocalglobeVC [Former ELT Member - Uber Europe, DEI Co-Chair @ Uber, CEO Forbes20, COO, Goldman Sachs, Monitor Group, Google Startups Mentor]
Recently, I have not been surprised at all to see HUGE discussions that grab our front pages about the future of our healthcare system or NHS England. I see the dilemma that every country’s government is trying to fix and the U.K. is no exception. That is: Our population balance is inverting - we have a shrinking birth rate, ageing population, very centralised healthcare system that cannot see everyone. More invisible carers juggling work and care. This is our reality, and the numbers are hard to add up. Last week, I was invited to U.K. Parliament for #iwd2025 International Women’s Day, and the biggest takeaway for me was: 1) the government is desperately trying to bring people back to work and keep people in work, the UK economy needs to grow - and it needs productivity to drive better outcomes for everyone; 2) the gender-pay gap for women and men over 40 has widened in the last several years (it will continue to do so, if I am a betting person!) 3) our heads are still in the sand and many don’t see how these two things are related at all. Women, are 4 times more likely to QUIT or go part-time when they are faced with someone who is sick at home. This isn’t a woman’s issue. This is a government growth issue. Professional care is getting more and more unaffordable for the private purse and governments have limited resources to pay for it, so rules will get tighter, qualifying for benefits may get harder. So… the system has to give somewhere and a lot of women quit or juggle to take care of their adult loved ones. U.K. Productivity keeps suffering. What I’m trying to say is IT IS ALL LINKED! Lots of companies are now doing an amazing job talking about The Menopause and Flexible Working, or Childcare. The tsunami that is coming is ADULT and ELDERLY CARE. 85% of companies have no adult care benefits in place, vs childcare yet we now look after more adults than child dependents! Rt Hon Dame Maria Miller Former Minister for Women and Equalities, Mims Davies MP for East Grinstead, Uckfield and villages, Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities in the U.K, thank you for all you do to help women. However there is still a big blind spot in government and the private sector today. If we want this country’s productivity to grow, if we want people to stay in work, looking at ways to keep women over 40 in work is key. Due to the shrinking birth rate, they will form the bulk of the workforce in the next two decades. In short: this isn’t just about women, it’s about U.K. productivity. The UK must grow! The Carers Leave Act has made NO difference to the bulk of workplace practices in companies. Carers need practical support so they can stay in their jobs. Just because more women than men become carers is irrelevant. #carersintheworkplace The Rt. Hon. Wes Streeting MP Keir Starmer

Wow, what a week! ☕ 🌞 ️ On Wednesday, we brought together a room full of HR and wellbeing leaders by Regent’s Canal to dig into one of the biggest hidden challenges in the workplace: caring responsibilities. And the response? Overwhelming. Our breakfast roundtable on 'The Workforce Wellbeing Blind Spot: Time to Take Action' sold out in record time – and for good reason. The stories shared were powerful: 🚫 Career trade-offs: Employees turning down promotions because they simply can’t juggle work and caregiving. 🔄 PMI policies out of step: Age limits that no longer reflect today’s workforce. ⚖️ Parents & carers—same group, different experiences: When one is a celebration and the other a crisis, how do you create the right support? ❌ A policy alone won’t cut it: Without practical interventions, carers are still struggling. This isn’t a niche issue, it’s a workforce-wide challenge that’s quietly impacting retention, engagement, and business performance. Given the huge demand, we’re running a second session in May! If you work in #HR, #Benefits, or #Wellbeing and want to be part of the conversation (plus enjoy some great food & coffee️), DM us to get on the list!

Increased staff costs means fewer people are receiving publicly funded long-term care. That’s the conclusion of a new report from The King's Fund, which warns of a ‘doom loop’ of rising wages, increased fees and stretched budgets. According to the study, between 2015/16 and 2023/24, there was a: 📈 17% increase in real-term care worker pay, due to the National Minimum Wage 📈 33% rise in fees local authorities had to pay to independent care providers 📉 fall in the number of people receiving long-term support from 873,000 to 859,000 (140,000) despite an increase in people requesting help, up from 1.8 million to 2.1 million Over half (50.5%) of businesses are already reporting that caregiving responsibilities have negatively impacted their teams – and it looks like that number is only going to rise. Talk to KareHero to find out what steps your business can be taking to support its employees through the care crisis. https://lnkd.in/em2EGGUF

In some regions of the UK, more than 60% of solicitors are over 50. An ageing workforce presents fresh challenges as employees try to juggle caregiving with workplace responsibilities. Victoria Hand, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Manager at Bristows LLP sat down with us to explain why brave businesses don't just talk about offering support, they take action. "It wasn’t just another generic benefit," she says. "KareHero provides real, tangible resources to help caregivers navigate their challenges with confidence. We couldn’t find anything else on the market that does the same thing." Check out the full Q&A 👇
