Green Marine (UK) Ltd has deployed a series of underwater gliders in the North Sea to support a ground-breaking data-collecting exercise led by the UK’s National Oceanography Centre (NOC) and the Met Office. Green Marine UK Operations & Technology Director Myles Metson said: “We’re thrilled to be expanding our relationship with NOC supporting this ground-breaking initiative in the North Sea. It builds on a number of similar projects dating back several years. Green Marine technicians travelled to NOC’s Southampton base to receive specialist training on best practice across a range of areas including pre-deployment, deployment and recovery strategies as well as on site glider maintenance, battery charging and data extraction post recovery. In order to optimise deployment and recovery missions, our team has also developed a purpose-built frame to handle the gliders stationed on board the Green Quest and Green Isle vessels.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/dPiuJ2fH #GreenMarine #OceanEngineering #Offshore #EnvironmentalMonitoring #MarineEngineering

Leading Scottish marine engineering firms Green Marine (UK) Ltd and Ocean Kinetics Ltd have successfully completed the decommissioning of OpenHydro’s pioneering tidal energy platform at the EMEC: European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney. A joint venture partnership was formed in April to deliver the contract, combining Ocean Kinetics’ divers, riggers, welders and ROV services, and Green Marine’s offshore management, vessel, moorings and cable experience, with shared responsibility for operational engineering, cutting and heavy-lift operations. Additional support was provided by Cutting Underwater Technologies Ltd Green Marine’s operations manager Terry Norquay said: “We are very pleased to have successfully completed this complex and wide-ranging project. Significant planning was required to complete the recent phase involving the removal of the two 18-tonne steel piles, with our vessel, the Green Isle, positioned in a four-point mooring configuration to remain stationary and allow divers to safely enter the water. This project has expanded Green Marine’s broad portfolio of work and demonstrates the turnkey offshore decommissioning solutions we can deliver in partnership with our trusted colleagues.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/dbtRVPYB Ocean Kinetics and Green Marine share vast experience in the marine sector, from work on subsea servers, port gates, and aquaculture equipment, to retrieving sunken barges (reaching 1000 tonnes in weight) and decommissioning projects including the salvage and removal of the 4000-tonne decommissioned oil rig Buchan Alpha. #Decommissioning #OffshoreOperations #HeavyLift #Engineering, #DiamondWireCutting #RopeAccess #DESNZ #GreenMarine #MultiCat

Green Marine (UK) Ltd is scaling up its Environmental Monitoring offering for Offshore Wind to deliver ‘full-scope’ projects following a surge in contracts with the Scottish Government's Marine Directorate. A series of contract over the last 18-months have largely involved the collection of PAM (Passive Acoustic Monitoring) devices, with operations lasting up to 20-days retrieving circa 40 devices over distances approaching 250 nautical miles. PAM offer a vital tool for offshore wind developers and government stakeholders to protect marine ecosystems and comply with environmental regulations. The Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) has guidelines for using PAM to reduce the risk of injury to marine mammals from offshore activities. These guidelines are adopted as part of the consenting regime within the United Kingdom Continental Shelf (UKCS). Green Marine UK Operations & Technology Director Myles Metson said: “The UK has the second-largest offshore wind market in the world with plans to triple capacity to 50GW by 2030. Much of this new development is on our doorstep, spanning areas where we have already performed extensive PAM operations. In response to market demand Green Marine UK is now expanding its Environmental Monitoring offering to deliver a full scope service. This includes the deployment and collection of devices right through to data processing involving our trusted partners. We are already seeing results, with new projects booked in for Q4 deploying scientific equipment in the Pentland Firth.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/dNC_NNRt #Offshore #OffshoreWind #GreenMarine #EnvironmentalMonitoring #MarineEngineering

Green Marine (UK) Ltd has registered a new company milestone after completing more than 50 complex cable operations for oil & gas, offshore wind and subsea datacentre sectors in addition to fast emerging Marine Energy technologies. Projects were either fully managed by Green Marine UK or involved operations as a subcontractor with specific responsibilities handling key elements of cable works. Standout projects include work with defence leader Naval Group supporting Microsoft’s Project Natick, as well as Scottish tidal energy developers Orbital Marine Power Ltd and MeyGen, plus Swedish wave energy developer CorPower Ocean. Recent contracts have involved cable (de)burial campaigns with 23 DEGREES RENEWABLES LTD and Nexans for the Seagreen Wind Farm off Scotland. Further cable maintenance has been completed alongside Dutch outfit N-Sea Group at the Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm in North Wales. Green Marine (UK) Ltd has been shortlisted for the Global Offshore Wind Awards 2024, hosted by RenewableUK. The prestigious event returns to the Royal Lancaster London in October, recognising key achievements and contributions that have driven wind energy forward over the past year. Green Marine UK - which delivers specialist vessels, engineering and marine support services - has been shortlisted in the ‘Supply Chain Innovation’ category for its role leading pioneering maritime initiative, Project Verdant. The Innovate UK backed initiative looks to retrofit CTVs (Crew Transfer Vessels) with hydrogen fuel cells and batteries – in a bid to cut emissions while servicing offshore wind farms. Findings show the system's ability to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 30% and NOx emissions by up to 40%. Green Marine UK’s Managing Director Jason Schofield said the project findings are hugely significant when considering the scale of opportunity. According to the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (OREC), the offshore support sector will be worth around £26 billion by 2050, with an additional 1,200 vessels required to service UK industry and support the transition to Net Zero. Approximately 400 CTVs are currently operating in offshore wind farms around the UK and Europe, and this could increase to 700 by 2030. “We’re thrilled to receive this shortlisting for Project Verdant which has successfully demonstrated the readiness of hydrogen fuel cell technology in CTVs. This is an important milestone for offshore wind enabling a greener and more sustainable approach to service maintenance.” Project Verdant was officially awarded Approval in Principle (AiP) by global classification society RINA during SMM Hamburg 2024.
