'We all know brands that have highfalutin purpose statements - but we can't really see what they are doing in the world.' Couldn't agree more Alison. Alison Corfield from the The Jamie Oliver Group joined us for our 7th Good Growth Roundtable last week. And those that joined us were treated to some really good insights and advice on leading social impact from an organisation that are demonstrably making a difference in so many ways. And were also treated to chocolate! We discussed, - Finding your unfair advantage in doing good - How to balance impact with commercial objectives - Turning a purpose statement into action - How to bring together and stop or scale disparate activities - How to measure impact A flavour below of what we got up to. And to hear the insights and questions posed on the day - do get in touch with Ryan Bromley. ryan@goodinnovation.co.uk

Big ambition. Limited resource. Sound familiar? Today we host our next Service Leaders lunch, bringing together brilliant people from across the sector to talk about just that and ask, 'Where should we focus time and investment for the greatest impact?' This was the first challenge from our 'Delivering Charity Services in an Ever Changing World' report - born from conversations with Service Leaders across the sector. So we're really grateful to Peter Watt from The National Autistic Society and Linda Cantle from Woodgreen Pets Charity who will talk today about their experiences. And as always, lots of space for honest conversations, practical insights and time to share lunch. If you'd like to hear more about the insights from today, do connect with Ryan Bromley and drop him a note. And read about this and the other challenges we heard in the report here, https://lnkd.in/een7RReF

💡 A New Rhythm, A New Joy I've spent my entire career in academia. It's a world where ideas take time to mature, data takes years to collect and analyse, and the pace, while rich and reflective, runs on a very different concept of time. But recently, I’ve been stepping into the world of technology and product design. And it’s like learning a new language. Here, progress can happen in a day. You test, tweak, learn, and move forward. I’m really enjoying the challenge of bringing these two worlds together. The academic mindset—thorough, critical, and evidence-based—has a lot to offer product design. And in return, the speed, creativity, and iterative nature of product development are reshaping how I think about research and impact. It’s not always easy, but that’s what makes it exciting. This blend is challenging me in the best possible ways, and opening up opportunities I couldn’t have imagined a few years ago. It’s humbling and energizing to be a beginner again. I am looking forward to learning, adapting, and finding joy in new ways of thinking. #DigitalInnovation #ResearchImpact Alzheimer's Society Good Innovation Kevin Moss Swansea University

“Doing good is good business” as Alison Corfield, the Director of Social Impact and Sustainability, from the The Jamie Oliver Group told Good Innovation’s attendees today. The question in the room was “How do we address the challenges around social impact and prove in our own companies that doing good really is good for business?” Of course, we didn’t completely answer the question but we had a good go at sharing advice and making recommendations, so here goes: 📣 Ask: what’s the central proposition of your social impact? 📏 Create change that’s measurable - you can put a scale to anything. 🗣️ Articulate what you’re doing (how AND why). And also, reduce your impact report for more…impact. 🙋The importance of figureheads (like Jamie, politicians, or your CEO…) and the positive (and negative) impact they can have and how to constantly reframe and ask “what’s next?” 📰 And equally as important, the constant flow of good news stories and lived experiences that come through social impact which is shared by employees - you all have a voice, use it! 💡Finally, to truly ensure people in your organisation are onboard, and applying an impact lens, we need to educate, inspire and then empower. Thank you to Good Innovation (care of Gemma Piggott) for the invitation. I had such a lovely time and definitely needed to meet like-minded, inspirational people today and feel their good energy. A great lift on this sunny Thursday. Oh, and we got some Tony's Chocolonely - a company who are demonstrative with their approach to -#socialimpact - to sweeten the afternoon even more so! What’s the one social impact challenge your organisation can have the biggest impact on? That’s the question we’re posing to 40 of the UK's biggest brands at our Good Growth roundtable today. We’re thrilled to welcome Alison Corfield, Director of Social Impact & Sustainability at the The Jamie Oliver Group, to share how her team is making their bold mission a reality. We’ll be asking Alison, How do you prioritise the work that drives real change? What do you know what to stop, start, or scale for maximum impact? And how do you lead with purpose and impact? This roundtable brings together senior leaders from brands that could shape the future. We're looking forward to talking about moving beyond purpose statements and making some real, measurable change. Here's Megan Hunter talking about her experience at our last roundtable 🙂 .

The innovations set to transform life for people with dementia - from gummy DentaBlue to headsets..... We couldn't be prouder to be partnering with Alzheimer's Society on their Launchpad Startup Programme, supporting 12 brilliant early-stage startups tackling one of the most urgent challenges of our time; How we support people affected by dementia. Over the coming months, Nish Agarwal will be leading the work that helps these teams to build, test and refine their solutions — helping them de-risk their commercial models and take their ideas to market with confidence. These startups are approaching the challenge from every angle — from fintech tools that support power of attorney, to predictive tech for better national and local decision-making, to caregiving aids and everyday innovations that make life easier and more dignified. Nish Agarwal has been really excited to kick off the work with the teams...'It’s rare to see this level of ambition paired with such openness to learning. Every startup in the programme is here to make a difference, and we’re proud to help them build ideas that could genuinely change lives.' Dementia isn’t just a diagnosis — it touches every part of life. There’s still a long way to go. But creating space to test and refine new ideas is a step in the right direction. Really encouraging to see this kind of work getting the press attention it deserves in the article below. https://lnkd.in/etWUG32z

'It's time to to step away from outdated stereotypes of Boomers, and of ageing on the whole.' Baby Boomers are one of the largest and most influential generations in the UK today but are often overlooked, or worse, misrepresented. Our latest Horizon Scan digs into who Boomers really are in 2025 – and what that means for anyone trying to engage them. Inside, we explore: Gerontolescence – a new life stage where Boomers are redefining later life through curiosity, reinvention and impact. Why time isn’t as abundant as you might think – how modern Boomers are balancing work, caregiving and more. What connection looks like as community structures shift and loneliness rises. How digital platforms (including TikTok) are becoming part of daily life for this group. Curious about what this means for engagement, giving, and the role of charity? Have a little dive into the headlines from our latest Good Futures Horizon Scan. https://lnkd.in/e7xi4Kvw

Not everyone or everything can be a priority. As much as we'd love them to be. With limited time and investment, where should charity service teams focus for the biggest impact? This was the first challenge we tackled in 'Delivering Charity Services in a Changing World' report, and one we hear frequently. So we're bringing Service Leaders together to learn from each other about making these tough calls and swap insights - no slides, no fluff, just honest conversation about how we can all focus on the impact we want to have. Guests to our lunch on 2nd April will think about, How do you choose which opportunities to pursue? What should you stop, start, or scale? How do you future-proof your service portfolio? If you're a service leader and would like to join the conversation, drop a note to Yvonne Filler. And if you missed the report - take a look here; https://lnkd.in/een7RReF #ServiceLeadership #CharityServices #DecisionMaking #ImpactMatters

With the launch of Adolescence on Netflix, and the conversation about what on earth do we do to support young men, I wanted to make available a report Good Futures wrote for charities at the end of 2023: The Future of Men - https://lnkd.in/e4yfqPEv This isn't about a single view of masculinity, but recognising the plethora of masculinities and the challenges facing young men. This also isn't about ignoring or deprioritising the issues and challenges facing young women and trans people. As Richard Reeves put it, “We can be passionate about the rights of women and girls, and compassionate toward vulnerable boys and men.” We wrote this in the hope of starting a conversation about how we can better work with, support and co-create with men. I'm really keen to continue this conversation so please hit me up for a chat.
