My internship at Gneiss Energy is coming to an end but its been a memorable 16 weeks. From finishing my Mathematics degree at King's College London to working for a boutique corporate finance house, I have expanded my network and enjoyed learning about a new sector. Working on a variety of operational and strategic projects has broadened my skill set and I am excited to take this enthusiasm into my new graduate role at Praesto Consulting. It takes a village to raise a ….   Gneiss Energy operates across the entire energy value chain as financial advisors on a wide range of deals in global markets. The success of which is reliant on whole team efforts.   Strategic communications expert Neil Davidson is now a senior adviser to the Gneiss Energy team. Neil is a policy and communications specialist focused wholly on the energy sector. With over 20 years’ experience in senior PR and advocacy roles, he has been vital in translating our knowledge into compelling reading whether it be white papers, press articles or thought leadership pieces.   Following a degree in Land Economy awarded by the University of Aberdeen, Neil cut his journalistic teeth at The Courier and The Sunday Post and freelanced for the BBC and Scotsman. In 2012, he established his own consultancy and works with several energy clients ranging from cleantech startups to major offshore windfarms. His role within the Gneiss team is to bring their expertise and deep industry understanding to a wider audience, both through traditional media and online.   “Energy and energy security are at the top of the agenda worldwide, and with a team of senior industry experts working internationally across all sectors from oil and gas to cleantech, renewables, infrastructure, and metals and mining, Gneiss is ideally placed to offer bespoke advice to its blue-chip clients. Business beyond the boardroom! 🤝 Following the highly successful Scottish Energy Forum Annual Dinner earlier this month, Gneiss Energy had the pleasure of hosting our clients for a BBQ at our Edinburgh office, followed by a Six Nations match at Scottish Rugby Murrayfield. Retaining and growing a skilled offshore workforce will be critical if the UK is to achieve its ambitious energy transition in the North Sea. This was one of the key takeaways from a very insightful presentation by Dr Nick R.ichardson from the North Sea Transition Authority at this week's Scottish Energy Forum event. Nick outlined an increasing complex seascape - a 'Rubik's cube' of potentially competing seabed users, from traditional oil and gas and fisheries to carbon capture and storage, hydrogen storage and extensive offshore wind. These new users already require a highly technical skilled workforce, with a strong overlap with the (aging) skills base currently engaged in oil and gas. If the UK is to capitalise on these new opportunities, and optimise the use of our premium offshore space, there is a strong argument to sustain existing North Sea activity in the medium term - in order to retain the skills we will need in the transition. At the same time, there should be a concerted push to educate and deliver the geoscientists, geophysicists and engineers of the future - all with the 'exploration mindset' that has served us so well to date. This month, Gneiss Energy participated in the 2025 Scottish Energy Forum Annual Dinner, which brought together nearly 1000 industry professionals.
