  • It has been an inspiring week at the #CambridgeConference, hosted by Ordnance Survey, where national mapping agencies from around the world have been discussing the future of geospatial data. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Ordnance Survey and all the delegates for the engaging and open discussions. In her keynote speech, our Director, Sarah Hodgetts, emphasised the importance of geospatial data in achieving key government missions and enhancing the lives of citizens. She highlighted how this data underpins AI capabilities and enables more effective public services. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the international community as we work together to strengthen geospatial capabilities.

  • We are delighted to join Ordnance Survey in welcoming international delegates to the Cambridge Conference for national mapping agencies. Today, we hosted a UK Geospatial Showcase with speakers from Association for Geographic Information (AGI), ARCHANGEL IMAGING LTD., EOLAS Insight Ltd, Huq Industries, Nottingham City Council, Satellite Applications Catapult, The Alan Turing Institute, Viability and 1Spatial. From innovative data products to solutions tackling climate challenges, we highlighted expertise across government and industry. This event is also a chance to learn from other nations, engage in insightful discussions and identify future collaboration opportunities. We are proud to foster connections that will shape the future of geospatial globally.

  • We are incredibly proud to announce that Amy Manefield has been named one of Geospatial World's Rising Stars for 2025!   Amy's leadership on the National Underground Asset Register (NUAR) has been exceptional - standardising and integrating buried asset data from hundreds of organisations while ensuring alignment with the OGC MUDDI standard.   Her innovative work has built a standardised digital representation of the UK's subsurface infrastructure, enabling safer excavations, and reducing disruption nationwide.   Congratulations Amy! Your dedication is making the UK's underground infrastructure safer and more accessible for everyone.   https://lnkd.in/eTuJmQKT   #NUAR #GeospatialExcellence #RisingStars2025 #DigitalInfrastructure

  • Ordnance Survey has just released data on over 40 million roofs in Great Britain into the OS National Geographic Database. The new data will benefit a wide range of sectors, from sustainability and energy, insurance and property to emergency services. The data has been released as part of the Public Sector Geospatial Agreement (PSGA). The PSGA is a contract between Government Digital Service, managed on behalf of the UK government, and OS for the provision of geospatial data and services to the emergency services and wider public sector organisations.

#Research #Engagement #Digital #Innovations #Subsurface Yesterday, with my fantastic colleague Viviana Angely Bastidas Melo, we had the privilege to present part of our #DigitalCitiesforChange research (led by Jennifer Schooling) to an engaging group of #international participants at the Geospatial: Government Digital Service’s Digital Subsurface Symposium held in Newcastle. Our presentation focused on: “Data and digital tools for decision-making in the built environment. A socio-technical perspective.” The event was great, with lots of good discussions, questions and provocations. I observed a strong sense of community to improve digital innovations for the subsurface. Many thanks to Holger Kessler and the team at Geospatial: Government Digital Service! • We were delighted to take some of our international delegates from this week's Digital Subsurface Symposium to Digital Catapult's 5G Immersive Lab Eldon Square , Newcastle upon Tyne this morning. The team experienced how 5G and impressive immersive technology solutions could be used in subsurface infrastructure management, such as through creating realistic training environments for roles where accessing the actual locations would be difficult or prohibitively expensive. Many thanks to the 5G Immersive Lab team for their brilliant demonstration of cutting-edge applications and their pivotal role in breaking down the barriers to digital adoption in the North East.

  • That's a wrap! We'd like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who joined us from across the globe for the Digital Subsurface Symposium in Newcastle upon Tyne these past two days.   The connections established and knowledge exchanged during this international gathering will significantly influence how we collectively manage critical underground infrastructure across our nations in the years ahead.   It was truly inspiring to collaborate with public sector organisations worldwide at various stages of their digital subsurface journey—whether considering a NUAR-type service, actively building one, or having already implemented such systems. The discussions were exceptionally constructive, open and thought-provoking throughout.   We're really excited that we’ve agreed shared principles for successful delivery—a tangible outcome that demonstrates the value of international collaboration in this vital sector. We look forward to sharing our learnings more widely in the future.     Our deepest thanks goes to all participants, and speakers who contributed to making this event a success. We look forward to the innovative solutions and partnerships that will undoubtedly emerge from these conversations as we continue to work together to transform underground asset management.
