Following SONIA TRAORE MANTION post on France, this week our ‘coffee around the world’ series comes to you from Spain. Last month I spent a day in Valencia cafe hopping. With just a day to explore, I set out on a mission: to experience both Valencia’s traditional café scene and its growing specialty coffee culture—one cup at a time. No visit to Valencia’s café scene is complete without trying horchata de chufa. I started my day at the Mercat Central and tried horchata, a refreshing, slightly nutty drink made from tiger nuts. While tradition holds strong, Valencia’s coffee scene has evolved in recent years, with independent roasters and third-wave coffee shops popping up all over the city. Next stop was Clem Cafe that serves all day brunch. The classic Spanish breakfast, a tostada is a must. Then I made my way to Ruzafa, Valencia’s artsy, bohemian district, where the specialty coffee scene is thriving. My first stop is Blackbird Café, a small but stylish café that takes its coffee seriously. I order a flat white, and it’s hands down one of the best I’ve had in Spain—smooth, balanced, and expertly poured. The café itself is warm and welcoming, filled with the hum of conversation and the smell of freshly ground beans. Later that day, I had a final coffee stop at Los Picos Café. It's a cute corner café with a nice leafy terrace. Sitting outside in March is always a treat. As I walk back toward the train station, I know one thing for sure: I’ll be back. I'm eager to return to Valencia to explore more of its cafés and panaderias, especially to try more of the traditional treats. Have you explored Valencia’s café culture? ☕ Let me know your favourite spots—I’ll add them to my list for next time! Next week we're off to China with Coco Ke Lin #CoffeeCulture #CafesAroundTheWorld #CoffeeTrends

  • We love sharing stories about how our clients drive value for their businesses using location planning.  This week we’re delighted to share the story of Australian national supermarket retailer Coles.   https://lnkd.in/gq5g-i5F Coles Supermarkets have used the science of spatial analytics to optimise their store network for customers for many years.  They are leaders in the application of location planning, always looking to improve data and techniques as technical capabilities evolve. Many thanks to the Coles Location Planning Team for allowing us to work with you, and for your kind words Richard Lyness and Chris Hitchcock… "We consider Geolytix an extension of our Location Planning team, the work that they’ve been able to help us with has brought our physical and online location planning teams closer together and has enabled us to make better decisions for customers when assessing new store opportunities. However, that is just the core of the work. Working with Geolytix is a true partnership and they are always on hand to answer our questions; whether it is to provide us with a view on global trends, thought leadership on the Location Planning industry, or supporting with innovative ways to help drive efficiencies in the way we work."

  • Thanks SONIA TRAORE MANTION for sharing insights into the exciting developments at The O2 in Greenwich! The combination of retail, dining, and gaming, such as the Virgin Media Gamepad and the KFC flagship store, reflects the growing trend of experiential retail. This evolution highlights the importance of location intelligence in shaping destinations that foster community engagement and deliver memorable experiences. A perfect example of how blending innovation with location strategy is paving the way for the future of retail! #LocationIntelligence #ExperienceRetail #O2Greenwich

I always enjoy site visits, and while in Greenwich last week for the Women in Data event, I thought it would be great to check out what The O2 Greenwich has been up to lately. I was impressed by some exciting new additions that are transforming the venue into a multi-dimensional destination.   🍗 KFC UK & Ireland Flagship Store KFC's new flagship store, which opened in February, seems to be a strategic move to create a standout presence at The O2. Located further from the main food court and nestled among the sportswear retailers, it offers 2 levels and innovative design with interactive digital menus and expanded seating. This positioning, alongside brands that appeal to sports-focused individuals, strengthens KFC's connection with those who might view KFC as a post-game or post-workout treat. 🎮 Virgin Media O2 Gamepad The Virgin Media Gamepad is another innovative addition, providing a free, interactive gaming experience at the heart of The O2. By bringing the gaming experience out of the home and into a public shopping space, it allows visitors to enjoy free, interactive gameplay on the latest consoles and games. With almost 100,000 visitors in its first year, GamePad is a great example of future marketing. It gives game developers a platform to showcase their products in a high-traffic, social environment, meeting the growing demand for experience over consumption, and allowing people to connect and compete in an exciting and fun way.   🍕 Gordon Ramsay Street Burger & Street Pizza On the culinary front, Gordon Ramsay is doubling up ! With an already existing Street Burger inside The O2, a Street Pizza is now planned to open outside the venue.   These recent changes highlight how The O2 is evolving into a true experience destination, embracing some of the hottest trends in retail:   🛍️Omnichannel Retail: Retail is no longer just about in-store or online—it’s about integrating both. Gamepad, for example, taps into the experiential trend while being closely tied to e-commerce and gaming culture (e.g., online bookings for gaming experiences or exclusive online content access). 🏬Destination Shopping: The O2 is positioning itself as more than just a place to shop or eat. It's evolving into a destination for a full-day experience. This approach directly responds to the decline in traditional shopping trips, as people now seek more leisure-oriented experiences when they visit retail spaces. 🫂Community: The mix of retail, dining, and gaming taps into the larger trend of social experiences. Consumers are increasingly looking for places to gather, share experiences, and be part of a community. Whether it’s hanging out in the revamped food court or engaging in group activities at Gamepad, The O2 is positioning itself as a place where people can connect with others, offering social experiences that traditional shopping environments can’t match.   #RetailInnovation #ExperienceRetail #Gaming #LocationPlanning #O2Greenwich #KFC #GordonRamsay

Following Dennis Bauszus’ last post on Brazil for our 'coffee around the world' series, I’m excited to talk about France this week !  ☕ Coffee in France: More than just a drink, it’s a way of life I’ve been in the UK for more than 5 years now and whenever I go back to France, one of my favourite things to do is just sitting on a terrace, a café viennois in hand, soaking up the moment. Whether it’s a quick espresso at the bar before work, a long lunch break with colleagues, or a weekend catch-up with friends over pastries, coffee and, therefore, cafés are at the heart of daily life in France. While in the UK, coffee often comes in a takeaway cup and is more about convenience, in France, it’s an experience. Cafés are places to pause, chat, and connect. And while the classic neighborhood brasserie is still going strong, France’s coffee scene is evolving in exciting ways. 🌍  A coffee culture that’s both timeless and cosmopolitan Paris is a good example of how France is embracing global influences. Spots like Café PetitBon bring a fresh, modern feel to the traditional coffee shop. At Kapé, in the 11th arrondissement, you can sip on a Filipino Ube latte and taste an ube ice cream which brings a whole new dimension to the coffee break. And then there’s ONOUL, a cozy Korean café in the 15th arrondissement, where locals gather in an intimate, welcoming space and can enjoy some sesame cake with their coffee. These cafés add to the rich tapestry of French coffee culture, proving that tradition and innovation can coexist and bring people together. 🥤  What About Big Coffee Chains? Of course, international names like Starbucks and Pret have found their place in France, particularly in business districts and train stations and bring convenience and reliable coffees on the go. They are particularly popular among students/young people who can come work with their laptop for a few hours, which is not always possible in smaller, neighbourhood cafés ! 💬  How Do You Like Your Coffee? I love seeing how France’s café culture continues to evolve while keeping its soul intact. Do you prefer the classic café crème at a traditional brasserie, or are you more into exploring new specialty coffee spots? Any favorite cafés—Parisian or beyond? Let’s talk coffee in the comments!  👇 Next week, we are off to Spain, and in particular, Valencia with Niamh Graham so stay tuned !

🌐What a week in the world of GEOLYTIX🌐 📍Our blog this week came from Josh Reynolds. After attending the Sostrene Grene Leeds store opening in January, Josh looks at a number of Danish variety stores who have entered the UK market. 🎓Kim Butterfield, PhD, Freddie Wallace & Catherine Duffy spoke to students at the University of Leeds Data Science Careers Fair. We've received fantastic feedback and glad the students really valued the conversations. 🌱We recently filmed with Vitality to share how we as a business are championing employee wellbeing. Thank you to the team, Vitality and film crew who made it such a fun and interesting day, not our average office day! ☕Our Coffee around the World series is in it's 9th country, this week we were in Brazil with Dennis Bauszus. Make sure to follow Geolytix to join the journey, next week we'll be in France with SONIA TRAORE MANTION. 🏆Named finalists in not one, not two but THREE categories at the British Data Awards! Innovation of the Year, AI Company of the Year, Technology Company of the Year. ☀️We cancelled our weekly team meeting yesterday and encouraged colleagues to use the time instead to get out and about in honour of Vitality. Perfectly timed, what fantastic weather for the spring equinox! Hello spring. 🎨The Leeds office hosted an arts & crafts evening, yet to see their masterpieces. #LocationIntelligence #Team #Data 🔗Links for more detail on all of the above in the comments
