🌟 Celebrating International Women's Day: Investing in Women Founders 🌟 Last night, Greenwoods Legal LLP had the privilege of partnering with Diversity UK and Murray Edwards College, Cambridge for an inspiring event, "Investing in Women Founders: Addressing the Gender Health Gap." The evening kicked off with a Tai-Chi demonstration by Faustina Yang Assoc CIPD setting a serene and focused tone for the night. The panel discussion featured incredible insights from: ⭐ Dr Avi Mehra a founder of Doctorpreneurs ⭐ Dr. Elsa Zekeng a co-founder of SökerData ⭐ Hanadi Jabado DL the managing partner of Sana Capital ⭐ Jiahao Huang the founder of Nuclera Some eye-opening McKinsey & Company statistics shared during the event included: ➡️ Women spend 25% more of their lives in poorer health, and addressing this would add a trillion dollars to the global economy by 2040 ➡️ Only 1% of investments in women's health go beyond oncology The event showcased groundbreaking femtech innovations by women founders Lorna MacLean of Demetria, Dr. Elsa Zekeng of SökerData and Shefali Bohra of Dotplot. The evening concluded with inspiring closing remarks from Ramesh Vala CBE, Deputy Chair of Diversity UK: " If you want to shine like a sun, first burn like a sun." (which he attributed to A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, the former President of India) A strong contingent of Greenwoods colleagues was present – Philippa Sturt, Ansu Paul Zachariah, and Nicolle Trust from our corporate and commercial team; Jo Scally and Natalie Williams from employment, Clare Harris TEP from wealth preservation; Jim Boff from IP; Myles Shearman from real estate; and Sam Baxter from disputes. We were proud to support such a vital cause, and were delighted to see so many of our contacts in attendance. A shout out from me to Emma Taylor-Bunting, Eleanor Lothian, Sarah Sepanski, CFA and Isobel Gingell, I left feeling encouraged by the strides people were making to close the Gender Health Gap and amazed by femtech solutions on offer. Let’s hope the event, and Murray Edwards’ launch of their ‘Enterprising Women Programme’, can be used a springboard towards a more equitable future for women in health and entrepreneurship. A special thank you to Lopa Patel MBE, Chair of Diversity UK for organising such an inspiring event. #InternationalWomensDay #WomenInLeadership #HealthEquity #WomenFounders #Medtech #Greenwoods

What an evening! Closing the Gender Health Gap: Investing in Women Founders On 12th March 2025, Murray Edwards College, Cambridge became a hub for vital discussions on women’s health and investment. Organised by Diversity UK in partnership with Greenwoods Legal LLP and Murray Edwards College, the Investing in Women Founders: Addressing the Gender Health Gap event brought together industry leaders, investors, and entrepreneurs to drive action on this urgent issue. The event formed part of International Women’s Day 2025, aligning with the call to #AccelerateAction and tackle the inequalities that persist in healthcare and investment. A Thoughtful Start The evening began with a Tai Chi demonstration by Faustina Yang Assoc CIPD, setting a reflective and focused tone. Dorothy Byrne, President of Murray Edwards College, introduced the college’s new Enterprising Women programme, designed to support female founders at Cambridge. Francesca Jus-Burke of Greenwoods LLP, emphasising the importance of legal and financial expertise for women-led businesses. The Gender Health Gap: Why It Matters Lopa Patel MBE, Chair of Diversity UK, opened the discussion with eye-opening statistics from the McKinsey Health Institute 2024 report that showed that: → Women spend 25% more of their lives in poor health than men, affecting their economic participation and well-being. → Closing this gap could add $1 trillion to the global economy annually by 2040. → Despite this, only 1% of UK healthcare research funding goes to women’s health outside of oncology. Key Discussions: Breaking Barriers in Health & Investment A panel of healthtech and investment experts explored the challenges women face in healthcare innovation and funding. The panel featured: • Dr Avi Mehra – Doctorpreneurs • Dr. Elsa Zekeng – SökerData • Hanadi Jabado DL – Sana Capital • Jiahao Huang – Nuclera They tackled issues like bias in medical research, the lack of funding for women’s health startups, and the disconnect between health data and treatment development. The consensus? Urgent action is needed—from funding research to changing investment patterns. Showcasing Innovation: Female Founders Leading Change The Tech Showcase highlighted three ground-breaking startups: • Dr. Elsa Zekeng, SökerData – Tackling bias in medical data to improve diversity in clinical trials. • Lorna MacLean, Demetria Ltd – Using AI to speed up the diagnosis of endometriosis, which currently takes an average of 9 years. • Shefali Bohra, Dotplot – Developing a device for early breast cancer detection, now moving into clinical trials. A Clear Call to Action The event closed with a powerful message: investing in women’s health isn’t just a moral imperative - it’s an economic and social necessity.
