At the recent G7 Summit in Italy, significant strides were made towards advancing AI for sustainable development. The discussions centered on democratizing AI resources, fostering inclusive digital ecosystems, and forming multi-stakeholder partnerships to ensure equitable and responsible AI growth. This initiative aligns closely with the Italy-Africa Mattei Plan, emphasizing the need to bridge the digital divide, particularly in developing countries. The summit addressed the interoperability of AI governance frameworks among member countries. Despite differing approaches, the shared objective is to develop secure, trustworthy AI systems. This includes efforts to harmonize with existing frameworks like the EU AI Act and the Hiroshima AI Process Code of Conduct, promoting global standards for AI. These developments mark a crucial step in ensuring that AI serves as a tool for positive global impact, fostering innovation while safeguarding ethical standards. #G7Summit #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #techforgood #innovation #sustainability #globalstandards

🥐 France sets eyes on AI influence! 🤞 This upcoming February, Paris will host the AI Action Summit; a gathering of heads of state, leaders of international organisations, CEOs of small and large companies, academics, NGOs, artists, and civil society figures for #AI. The summit will cover public interest, the future of work, innovation and culture, trust, and global #governance in AI. France is home to Mistral AI, one of the world's leading frontier modelers. The summit will be used to signal #France as a key AI hub in the world. Recently, OpenAI opened an office in Paris. Ina Fried reports for Axios that France is challenged by the vast access to venture #capital that competitors like the US and China enjoy with AI. With a hawkish regulatory environment, European leaders like France can lead on issues like trust and #ethics in the AI space. EthicAI builds #trust in AI solutions. We believe ethics-driven AI helps our clients minimise the risks and maximise the benefits of AI deployment. #TrustworthyAI #AINews #AIStrategy #AIForBusiness #ethicalAI #AIethics #genAI #responsibleAI #AIgovernance #AIlaw #AIpolicy (🔗 to article in comments)

The next frontier in #AI regulation needs to be global inclusion. In a recent piece in Foreign Policy, Dr. Rumman Chowdhury argued that "we have a critical responsibility" to protect users in global majority countries that are just starting to see AI introduced in their societies. In the upcoming G20 meeting, Brazilian President Lula da Silva will seek to amplify the voices of those in the Global South, lest we wind up with global governance that fails to accommodate the perspectives and needs of those currently lacking the capacity, personnel, and funding to meet the challenges of AI regulation. We now have a chance to see AI governance emerge in a way that overcomes international inequities and doesn't exacerbate the digital divide, but it will take serious investment and, more importantly, listening. Are we up to the task? https://lnkd.in/ebwGFZ3X

As the EU leads the way with its groundbreaking AI Act, it's time for Africa to take notes and chart its own path in AI governance. Here's what we can learn: -Risk-Based Approach: Prioritize oversight where it matters most. -Human-Centric AI: Put people first in AI development and deployment. -Transparency Requirements: Foster trust through openness. -Cross-Border Collaboration: AI knows no borders – neither should our regulations. -Innovation-Friendly Framework: Protect citizens without stifling growth. Africa has a unique opportunity to leapfrog in AI governance. By adapting these principles to our context, we can ensure AI benefits all Africans while addressing our specific challenges. What do you think? How can Africa lead in responsible AI development? #AIGovernance #AfricaTech #EUAIAct #ResponsibleAI #TechPolicy
